I have a lower end AD its a PUCH.. in Black from what i recall the colors were very model specific, obviously the frame build components are a clue to quality, and from what i have read they had really good craftmanship craftwomenship personship.. you know what i means...
i seem to recall finding a scan of some brochures on line in German and i was able to Luzern i mean discern my model, i had to really be persistent with my search engine verbiage to get to them... i haven't gotten to that build yet, but mine is also in 531 although it may be on the main triangle only, and for some odd reason the hubs appear to be Schwinn unless my eyes deceive me.. uggg why oh why would someone do that...

All of the 531-tubed Austro-Daimlers and Puchs are severely underrated, I think. When I finally recovered my long-lost Puch Royal X a few years back, I was thinking it was nice for nostalgia reasons. WRONG! The angles, the geometry, all of it, make for a glorious gliding quality to the ride, comfy but still nimble. All of those Graz-built 531 frames were silver-brazed, too. I plan on riding mine a bunch this year.

Well I picked up the frameset. Nothing was bent or out of shape but there were a few surprises. One was some rust under the top tube. I can deal with it but it sort of sucked. The good news was plenty of room for 28s and possibly fenders but jus as a lark I brought a set of a23 650b wheels I built and they fit spectacularly well with 38s. Also this model came equipped with recessed brake bolts which I didn't realize. Fortunately I have a set of tektro 559s with recessed brake bolts. I'm not sure I will build it this way but if I do I will replace the front hub with a better dynamo. With this much stuff on it it's still incredibly light. I may mock up a build I can ride before I address the rust.

Congrats on the purchase. Now that your pictures show the color better, I think it may be an Ultima.
I found this gallery with a similar frame, https://www.flickriver.com/photos/11...7641468999973/

I am guessing no matter how that is built up, it will ride like a dream.
I remember riding my friend’s AD...maybe the Olympian (which had the FrenchGerman ensemble of parts). Fantastically spry and a great climber.
still working on the AD SLE from @diomekes

1970s - I remember this color of frame, kinda Kkaki color. It was on display at Sears along with some lower grade Ted Williams Free Spirits. SEARS Austro-Daimler.
I remember it also said 10 day delivery to the bike shop of your choice. It was over a $170.00 USD and No Layaway either!!!!

Rode to my son's house and this bike is outstanding. I'm going to attempt to mount a front rack. Hopefully it's not a crazy idea. The nr rear mech with Soma long cage works fairly well and I just might keep it in place. The cassette is 14-16-18-21-24-28 on 7 speed spacing and I know the gossamer crank is out of place but I had it and it's darn light. Also the pedals are Asian knockoffs of campy and years ago someone ground off the points. Could have been me.
