Not that hard IF you've built a few internal cable bikes. Built several Noahs. I've never had a frame set that came with build directions BTW. Seat mast/spacer thing is an urban myth. There's a few tricks to routing...biggest one is rough the cables THEN install the BB. Badda bing badda boom.
PM me if you run into more stuff. I ran EDR through the drill.

For the cable routing we ended up duct taping the FD cable to a stiff brake cable, end to end, and thin enough it would fit. I then fished the brake cable (easy as pie) and pulled the FD cable through with it.
Also kinda wanting to redo it so I can cross them in the frame and on the headtube, I prefer them crossed. I think I'll ride it for a while like it is though, see if it bothers me. Who knows, maybe I like it more this way.
The 3mm spacer thing came from Ridley's website.
IMPORTANT: there should always be at least 1 x 3mm spacer in the
seat clamp at all times. Failure to do so may result in premature
damage to the seat tube and void your warranty.

I feel like it should either come with instructions, or at least list what the parts are. We had to just figure out by process of elimination that the thing included is a cutting guide.

rbart, my thoughts are with you.
Dementia is tough. My father's mother got sick very fast. I remember visiting her in the institution. I was about 14 then. She started swearing in Russian, then started saying in English "Who is that man? Get that man out of my room". It's hard to forget that.
My father passed while I was in college. He never met my wife, never met my kids. Cherish the time you have with your parents, because it is fleeting.

I came home from my commute yesterday and unloaded my panniers. About an hour later I was getting ready to go out and I couldn't find my keys. I tore the house apart looking for them. I called work and had them check around. No dice. I was all set to go to the dealer this afternoon and get a replacement computer key, when Mrs. Shovel called. She grabbed them by mistake and put them in her purse.

I had my CT scan today. No abscesses. My surgeon says that I'm 9 weeks out from surgery now, and that it's just healing pain. He reminded me again of how much of a mess I was in the OR. In 20 years, he's only sent two patients back for a scan after an appendectomy (including me), and sometimes he has five of them in a day.
Well, I'm just going to take it easy on the bad days, and get some pedaling pain on the other days.

I lent my timing chip to a team mate that podiumed today.
This is just a heads up to my local peeps on BF just in case the race promoter doesn't make the change in their computer system and publishes a race report me listed instead. This happens fairly often down in the 'Duh'.

Bike is finally built. That took forever. I was all ready to actually ride it, but then I noticed the freehub on my PT rear is making a not-normal noise. It's in between the ratchet noises, obviously. Sounds like the fraying end of a derailleur cable slapping against spokes, kind of "ting, ting", but it isn't that. Does it with the wheel off the bike if I hold the cassette still.
I'm assuming I should take the freehub apart and see if there's any problems, and just throw some grease in there and ride it if it looks fine.

4 hours in the Santa Monica mountains today. Great day, snow in the distance, whitecaps on the ocean, and a headwind in every direction. Our route crossed paths with an organized ride and I think I saw ericm979 going the other way.

Has anyone replaced the bearings in their PT hub? I've got the 2.4 SL (I think?) and the bearings are shot. The "ting, ting" I was describing earlier was one of the pawls not engaging correctly, I fixed that and cleaned everything up, but the bearings are really rough. It looks easy enough, and the internet says it's possible, but I haven't found a great write-up with pictures and which bearings and stuff. It seems like different models use different bearings, so I guess I'd have to take it apart to figure out which bearings I need.
Anyway, time to go ride. It's rough, but it's running. Rest of the bike is just dandy. I'll let you know how many mph faster I am when I get back from my ride. I'm assuming at least 7.

Did my first MTB race to day.
The Barking Spider, a Nats. qualifier.
It was.................... I think I'll just go take a long, hot shower.

Making a kilometer blurry
rbart: I feel for you, and appreciate the sharing. We all will deal with this at some level.
He actually said I need take it easy and finish healing. Ride when I feel like it, but any ab pain = back the f off.
Funny anecdote: the CT did find a mass in an intestinal loop that used to be an abscess (which was removed). The radiologists pointed it out. I told the Doc I thought it was probably a Junior Mint. He admitted that a his chewing gum had gone missing around that time...
Thanks for the heads-up -- good to see a similar post-op. That's what we thought it was, but my pain is right ribs up to shoulder tip on every breath -- which is the main symptom of an abscess behind the liver. He had looked back there in surgery and there was no pus, and none in the first CT, but there was a chance it had gone there soon after the surgery since I was on my back full-time. The symptom that was missing was the fever spikes (none at all).
I'm in good shape to get back after it next week (caught a cold yesterday, so holding off for a bit longer).

I had an emergency appendectomy 15 months ago. It went well. I was back on the bike in two weeks. But for three months I had intermittent, sometimes severe, pain; to the point that I went back to hospital and they checked whether they'd left some festering fragment behind. They hadn't. After four months I was completely pain-free and my continued cycling appeared to do no harm at all. Just post-operative pain. Disconcerting, though, I sympathise.

Too many stresses last week. Yuck.
First race, Masters, top ten and money. Second race, Pro-Am, last in the dwindled down field. Right from the whistle guys were dropping off the pace. I did everything I could to hold on.
I had a great time but it's tough to race when you're setting up and manning the event. Plus all the stuff I'm working on at the house. This morning I'm heading out for 100 plus to get ready for my next race ... 110 mile, P/1/2 race with a payout of $6000. With M40, M50 bonus.

Thanks for the words guys...
I guess that while they were around I always felt there was always next week....Now there is no next week....
I know I used the training and racing as a coping mechanism, a way to keep my mind occupied, but for some reason it's not working anymore....Of course the body has taken care of that...
I've had a couple sessions of acupuncture and they do help immediately after, but I'm not sure if I'm getting lasting results...I guess I have to give it a bit more time and be a bit more patient...
Going to catch the end of the Paris to Ancaster race...It's going to be a messy one!

Unless there's some change in the seat clamp, I can't think of how this would be any different than the clamp itself sitting on the post. If anything more spacers would lessen the engagement of the clamp and make it less stable, the only thing I could think of would be the aluminum spacer provides more clamping strength, but the clamp bolt is a fair bit from the top of the tube. Never ran one on either bike and EDR is still riding my old frame 3 years plus later.

The only thing I can think of is that the spacer keeps you from crushing the mast if you don't pay attention to the torque spec. Anyway, I think I needed it. My mechanic seems to have cut it a bit short anyway.
Also shouldn't have gotten a standard crank. I was hurting in the super headwinds and steep climbs today. Feel like I could use a compact, at least until I get stronger.
Loose PT bearings, plus very tight seatstay tolerance, equals tire rubbing on seatstay. Ugh.
