198? schwinn sprint, original paint
Its in fairly good shape and a fairly nice riding bike, converting it to fg/ss , my fg wheel should get here within the next week.Im going to get a lighter seat post and clamp, swap over to some pursuit bars and getting a brooks, havent decided if i want to move over my candie apple b17 from the cross bike or get a new brooks for this bike.

Like Lance said, "it's not about the bike". You probably caused that guy to run to the bike shop to buy lighter water bottle cages after being thrashed, because that could be the reason it happened......
wassup everyone... i rarely take pics of my bike. but here is me on my best ride during a messenger race. though it's a time trial, in traffic and not an alleycat. 11.5km.
frame is from a little known local builder (mid-80es)... your standard columbus SL with cinelli lugs. fork is a kinesis carbon. mostly dura ace 7400 with some shimano 600 and the derailleur is a simplex LJ 4000. wheels are wolber profil tx on mavic... wow I love this wheelset.
on the second pic i am doing the race's most dangerous pass, an highway pass and fortunately I got a green light. the guy on the left is not in the race, but doesn't take it that I pass him, so decides to try and keep up. which he does. but I'm already at my ~7th KM of being all-out. anyway i totally raced that carbon dude with a bank-sponsor jersey for a KM or two, then he decided to turn left. hah !
god I still can,t get over how ridiculous carbon dudes with 10k in gear look.
anyway.... fast & fun times

My latest acquisition, a 1984 Canadian market Nishiki Landau. I think it's all original but for ye olde Brooks saddle from my personal stash and the tires put on it by the flipper I bought it from. Anybody want to guess if that (medium cage?) Suntour Cyclone RD can accommodate a 32-tooth cog? The 26 that's on there now is just killing me on the hills I have to ride on around here.

A long cage can handle a 34. I'd be a little surprised if a mid-cage handle a 32--more likely a 30, I'd think. But that's just a guess.

Hi all,
I've seen some awesome bikes in this threat. Here's mine, a 1981 KoGa-Miyata Gent's Touring. Allmost all original.
Hope you like it!

I bought this today from the original owner. 1982 Colnago Superissimo with SR, Record hubs, Campy Victory Strada tubular wheels, Wolber sewups, neither have ever seen a drop of glue. Bike has less thn 200 total miles. Absolutely lovely. Its our new living-room ornament.

I decided to build myself a bike using a vintage frame and some vintage components but having a modern drivetrain. Here is the result:
This is a 1984 Italian Masi 3V frame. I put an FSA Gossamer triple crank with Shimano Ultegra BB on the bike along with a Shimano 105 drivetrain and brakes. Fulcrum hubs laced to Mavic CXP22 rims and Michelin Erilium 2 tires. A Campy Super Record seat post, 3ttt stem pantographed "Alberto Masi" and Selle San Marco seat and bar tape complete the build. This bike used to look like this before the rebuild, built up with period correct components:

Me too! That kinda drivetrain should get you up just about any hill you can get traction on. And what a gorgeous build!

Here's my 1982 Merckx
Columbus SP with Campy SR, upgraded to modern aero brake levers and Look Peddles. I switched the Super Record levers for a set of Simplex Retro Friction which were part of a Gepiemme (spelling) group.

It's a 12-28 with a 50-39-30. It's not necessarily what I would choose from scratch since I don't really like triples. If going from scratch I would probably have gotten something like the SRAM Apex to get wide range with a double. But I had this drivetrain sitting around as a takeoff from another road bike I upgraded to Dura Ace so I decided to use it. I do have some stout hills where I ride and I do want this to be a rider.

My "new" RRB. Kind of a hodge-podge parts-wise (though basically full Campy). The frame is in nice shape. I know this will seem odd to many, but this is also the first bike I have ever owned with a Brooks saddle.
