Can I join the club?
92 Merckx Century, was originally built with DA7401/2/3 8 speed. Swapped out the wheels, shifters, rear derailleur for DA7800 and threw on my favorite saddle and pedals. Rides like a champ, but I've got to find some different handlebars with less drop/reach that are the right width. I'm thinking I might try the Soma Hwy 1 bars if I can find a set online, they always seem to be sold out.

True, but it came with a quill stem and that's C&V enough for me.

So much inspiration, so little knowledge! Gotta keep scrolling through the 130 pages looking for tidbits of information to expand my knowledge base.

The 1991 Century could still be ordered with dt shifters.
My 1992 Team Kelme Century was a nos frameset purchase and I built it with a mix of Centaur/Record.
@op Very nice Merckx. Nice riding bicycles for sure.
I couldn't stand not having one around here, so I bought another Merckx this morning.
Also, I have Highway 1 bars on my Tommasini Super Prestige and they fit me nicely. I use them with grey Centaur Ergos and the fit is just right.

Your fav? The previous setup shifted every bit as good as the 10 speed DA that's on it now. I plan on keeping those goodies around in the event that I want to swap it back to 8 speed.

I started a thread for this when i was doing the conversion, but I've been reading this thread for days now and want to post some pics.
Born September of 86, sold in 87. Full 105 group, all original, even the headset, save for the saddle, tires and STI's and the other small bits like housing, cables, pads...The STI's are 105's series 1055. the rest of the components are all 1050. She's become my favorite bike to ride out of the two I have. The ST500 is pretty much a grocery getter, now. I commute to work on the SR and ride it on my days off, which is going to happen shortly now that i've heard the dryer alarm go off . As a result of the constant riding in and out of DC she's picked up some scrapes. A lot of scrapes, actually.

I'm using that arrangement on my wife's Campy Chorus 8-spd with Shimano cogs on an Ultegra hub. Works great and I've got a drawer full of loose Shimano cogs to build whatever cassette she wants. Seems like the Shimano cogs last at least as long as Campy, and there's a much greater range available.

I just put this together a few weeks ago. Nice ride all around...1985 Basso Gap with circa 2008 (?) Campy Centaur 10 speed. Some may recall seeing this in the appraisal section as I was trying to help a friend decide whether the Basso in it's 1985 build was a good bike to buy.
