Coincidentally there was a huge drop in Cat 5 registrations this year, first one without a clinic in a few years.

You already have. Lest we forget when we started out you were getting blown out the back of W4 crits in a few laps and your idea of training was to go out and kill yourself every ride. You've made a few tiny improvements since then

Not surprised. In age/gender/terrain appropriate races you're banging on the podium, even though you're tasked with racing against the people who set those tier parameters.

I was supposed to race the Maverick Classic this weekend but didn't want to drive 4+ hours to race in the rain.
The only thing that makes this weekend's weather less frustrating is the spring that our east coast brethren have suffered through.

Zwift keeps asking me my name. I keep trying different things, but no matter what I type, it resorts to my real name. They must be in cahoots with the NSA or something.
Seriously, if you see Rahsaan Bahati on Te Anu, it just might be me. If you manage to out sprint Bahati, don't let it go to your head...

Right there with you. Maybe the rain will break for a bit today and I'll get outside, but I doubt it.

The rain took my 5 hour Z2 ride outside, and turned it into hell in the garage. I have come to believe these 40/20 things are as much a mental exercise as a physical one.

For me part of the mental is: "This is stupid, I'd rather go drink a beer. But, I paid some dude who is expert in this stuff a lot of money to tell me what to do, so I'm just gonna shut up and power through and get it done."
That is part of the value of a a coach! It's a perverse world. I've probably had that conversation with myself a half dozen times in the last 6 months...but my #'s are higher than ever, so it's been good that I listened to my coach instead of myself. And, with each bump in power, or good race result, his credibility grows...and the aforementioned mental exercise becomes less and less challenging.
When - not if, but when - you enter a 50/4's race and ride people off your wheel, I think this mental exercise will get easier for you!

I've just been using the book "Faster" approach. My legs don't hurt, it's all in my mind, and it's just my body trying to protect me from myself. Believe it or not, it actually is beginning to work. Or. the work is paying off.

I must also give credit to you, Hermes. You're the first guy that even referenced that train of thought. I haven't picked up the book yet, but that's on my list.
