Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I seem to remember some kvetching about comfort when you first got the Addict, and now you've gone even less plush?

Man what I wouldn't give for a 2013 Foil 15 with November Rails on it. Every time I see this kind of thread I get closer and closer to pulling the trigger...

Thats considered "hilly" for you?? that looks like flat country with small rollers. What state/city you from?

That's the Scottish borders. I'm from Northumberland. Those are not small rollers. They're called the cheviots and are along the Pennine Way, which crosses the UK east to west. That picture is taken from Carter Bar. Google it, tis nice country.

Are you a thick Geordie, OP? If so, ya might want to become a thin Geordie.... But then again, being so flat there, it won't matter much....

Not a Geordie no, but an even thicker Yorkshireman who was so stupid he couldn't remember his way back home and yes I'm working on reducing my 12st to 11!

The best part about my Foil are the badass looks. Best looking bike I've ever owned.

Well you sure do have some beautiful country up there to ride in! I used to know a Geordie who emigrated here- He always told me how beautiful it was there. I guess he realized what he was missing, 'cause he moved back to near Newcastle!

Nice thing too, is that you can ride to another country! (My Geordie friend used to say that you can tell when you get to Scotland, 'cause you'll see the teabags hanging out to dry! )

Enjoy that nice bike!

That brings a whole new meaning to 'tea bagging' I suppose - ..... Yeah its a real nice ride to the borders, then along the Scottish side east to west, back into the UK via Deadwater and into Keilder Forest. Its 85 mile round trip and can almost be done without taking a foot of the pedal!

Beautiful! That must be the IDEAL place to ride! Is The Lake District within riding distance? My friend used to rave about that area.

It is kinda, not that far but a round trip would be 200-400 miles. The Lake district is massive!! The Cheviots, which I mentioned before, stretch from the Lakes to Carter Bar and into the borders. Its called the Pennine Way and is a destination in itself. People come from all over Europe to do the trek across the peaks. https://www.contours.co.uk/walking-ho...ennine-way.php

Sad day today, had to get a full refund on the FOIL, the paintwork started peeling off and SCOTT UK couldn't find a replacement.... Apparently this is/was common on the 2012 F15, probably why they were discounted. So a new search begins today!!

True, but there's always another - been looking around found a 2011 ADDICT R15 with SRAM RED for £1799. Not a bad price for a brand new bike with and RRP of £3599! Or the other is a 2012 CANNONDALE SYNAPSE, HI-MOD ULTEGRA (carbon/black) at £1999..(RRP £3000) spoilt for choice! Which would you go with ??

What a shame. Just don't settle for something just because you want to get back riding around that beautiful area. Make sure it IS the One and enjoy.

sorry about the chipping paint. I have a 2012 foil 20 and i had the seatpost slip problem for the first few months. paint scraped on the seatpost now. Im waiting for the warranty to expired then im doing a stripdown on the frame and going custom art work on it.

although the new 2014 addict SL makes me want to make a WW build so bad.
