"Elitism!"
Boo hoo.
When I was new, I jumped into fast rides. I got yelled at, and I deserved it, because I did stupid things that endangered others or just made people work unnecessarily hard.
All things equal, if someone is riding at a higher level it probably means they train more than you; maybe they're naturally gifted, but chances are they've invested time and money into the sport and sacrificed other things to be as good as they are. So this is not so much about ego-- they're better than you because they've worked at it. They're not pissed because you've dared soil their training ride with your incompetence. If you knew what the hell you were doing during the training ride, nobody would be yelling at you, would they?
Amateur bike racers are chronically short on time, and it's hardly their obligation to teach you the sport. If you're thin skinned and can't handle being berated when you screw up, there are always clinics and casual group rides where that sort of behavior is much less common.

this is the thread...
The rules are okay and understood as I have been in fast double pacelines... it is difficult to speak, let alone yell.. I have told people to close the gap, not yelled... and if they can't and I can go around, I do. I have also been told to close the gap, not yelled at... and sometimes the pace is just too fast for me and I will pull out safely before my turn to pull again if I have no choice... better to have the guy behind close the gap than me have a heart attack or worse the gap gets too large..
but if someone grabbed my jersey in the was the OP said, that grabber would at minimum, be looking for a new bike..

Been a while since I've been in here. I'll throw in a few of my current pet peeves. The accelerating on the front between puls and pulling too f'n long.
Some day again my slow butt will ride with some people who get it. Until then I will be reduce to squirrell hunting.

Even though I'm far from being l33t rider I felt I must comment on this thread.
As soon as I read the OP thread I was reading one of my old gaming threads, once upon a time I was the 3rd best in the world for one week at one PC based game (I know I know) and I too seemed as arrogant as the OP did. I understand that you don't have the (lung cap) time to tell the noobs that they are brining your training level down or that they are making you uneasy.
But when you have the time to post on this forum why don’t you re-phrase your self?
You now have the time to teach to 'spread the word', to get to the point, after a few post all I read was ' I'm too fast and good to explain my self to you'. I couldn't find a single comment that was brining your OP in to the view of 'the noob’. Sometimes you need to think about what you are saying and say it better. On a side note for "grabbing them and removing them from the pack" well you gave all who ride a bad name, it's a shame because you think you meet like minded people when you have something in common but all you tend to find is the same joe public but in one place.

I was on a Wednesday night ride with the "fast" recreational group a few weeks ago. We caught the slower group right before a decent. As we go down the hill I started to pass one of the riders in the other group. An SUV was coming up in the other direction and the other rider started drifting left. You damn well better believe I yelled.

Yelled at a teammate last night for taking us through the potholiest part of the road.
Didn't mean to yell. It just came out that way.

Got yelled at in my Tuesday night race last week for squeezing through a pretty tight gap and bumping handlebars. I didn't mean to ride aggressively, but I was following a wheel and the guy to the right sort of drifted over to take the wheel from me even though he was moving a bit slower than the wheel I was on. The guy on my left was pretty close to the edge of the roadway so he couldn't move. In retrospect, I could have easily let the guy in because it wasn't a critical time in the race. But, my reaction was 'Hey, that's my wheel buddy!' and I kept it.

We had the "hand on the shoulder" this Saturday a few times, the gentler, kissing cousin version of the jersey grab for some guys getting squirrely in a single pace line.

I've actually gotten in the habit of yelling at people when I ride. It isn't people who are supposed to be riding in my lane, it's the ones who are in the other lane and not paying attention. I had an idiot the other day riding and carrying a guitar who weaved right into my lane and almost crashed into me.

I got yelled at to hold my line the other evening. Little bit weird as i was out for a 12mph spin on a bike path on my own. The guy that yelled at me was a stranger. And a bit strange.

i got yelled at two weeks ago. Going through a nasty sandy turn on the outside I freaked, swung wide and slowed. Apparently he thought that was the time to come around me on the outside as well. I probably deserved it.
In a crit last week the guy in front of me thought he should slow WAAAY down for a corner. I grunted in disapproval, the guy behind me got up to him and had a little talk, mid-race
