Another gorgeous sunny day with mid 60s temps and calm wind. I joined some friends for a MTB ride this morning at a good set of trails in Macon behind the LH Thomson factory (where they make the seat posts and stems). I was having a good ride until I overcooked a dropoff into a turn and flipped forward landing on my head and back. Didn't hurt much, but my helmet was full of sandy dirt. It did make me lose my confidence enough that I didn't want to keep riding and my derailleur hanger was tweaked a little, making shifting sloppy, so I quit after 10 miles.

After driving home and eating lunch, I wanted to ride more, so I took Ribby out for a 20 mile road ride. The VO saddle still was painless even with the cheap shorts I wore. So far so good.

32 miles on the river road. Lots of eagle watchers out. Temp was in 30's and 40's but very damp and foggy. Still, better than sitting at home.

January 18, rest day
January 19, yes another great day in Central FL

Temp in the low 60s when I left to high 60s when I got back today, so I got out for another 32+ miles this afternoon. Winds were calm. I am 73 miles ahead of this time last year and have ridden same amount of days (11 days t/y vs 11 days l/y). If the weather stays fair I should surpass last yr with ease.

Another impressively short distance: Five and a half miles! Spur-of-the-moment ride after getting home from work. 38 degrees, dry, not quite dark yet. Much more fun than spinning on the trainer for 20-30 minutes.

My thoughts last night as well, although I use a elliptical,as I went for a 65 minute ride on the mtb. It was getting a little dark when I got back too.

I got in 21 miles yesterday without the need for lights! I was able to get home from work about 2:30 instead of the usual 5:00 p.m. It was a nice sunny, 46 F degrees with little to no wind. Rain several days ago washed away most of the road salt. So, I didn't even have to wash the bike down upon returing home.

January 20, yes another great day in Central FL

Temp in the low 60s when I left to low 70s when I got back today, so I got out for another 31+ miles this afternoon. Winds were calm (boy do I like that). I am 103 miles ahead of this time last year and have ridden one more day than LY (12 days TY vs 11 days LY). If the weather stays fair I should surpass last yr with ease.

Drove to the desert for some business...knew I would have some time afterward so I took my bike. Came in handy, got in 20 miles around all the crazies in the La Quinta area there for the Bob Hope Classic.

January 21, yes another great but very windy day in Central FL

Temp in the low 70s when I left to low 80s when I got back today, wind out of the SW at 21 to 26 mph so I got out for another 34+ miles this afternoon. I am 138 miles ahead of this time last year and have ridden 13 days TY vs 11 days LY. 10 miles into the 21/26 mpr head wind kicked my @$$.

Beautiful weather in the 50's from Monday until yesterday, but I could not get free to ride. Finally, today got in another short 13 mile ride in 40 degree weather. Felt good. As I type this, sleet and freezing rain are falling outside, and this will continue through most of tomorrow. Maybe I can get out again on Saturday.

Too much snow here in Maine. Spent part of the morning shoveling a path for the oil man then did an hour on the trainer at average of 14.5 mph.

I rode to work today. It was 46 degrees as I rode in, and is supposed to be 75 degrees for the return ride home this afternoon. I'll be fighting a serious headwind, though.

I managed to ride to work three times this week, in spite of how busy I was (closed on the sale of my Arlington house on Tuesday, and spent Wednesday at the oncologist's, where I was pronounced cancer free for another six months).

Congratulations on your continued success in that battle.

Coincidentally, I was also visiting my oncologist that day. The exam was all good and I'll get the PET scan results early next week.

It's been pretty stormy here over the last few days, after checking the weather, I found a "window" of time between storm systems! I called my friend Kelly and we went on a ride, he's a serious MTB'er so when he had a "short cut", I should have know it would have some "off road"! LOL, what he considers a very mild trail is what I consider a normal MTB trail, this one has a bit of ice and snow but myself and the "Frankenbrid" survived nicely so I know it hasn't totally forgotten it's MTB roots! We wandered on over and checked out a bike shop, then did some "sidewalk surf'in" to get back to the paved trail.

A nice couple of hrs.+, even though Kelly got a flat, still if felt good to get on the bike in the sunshine and it was nice to chat with him as I mostly ride "alone" on the weekdays so that was a treat. Well we headed back being chased by "dark clouds", after I got home, put the bike up, it started lightly snowing, so the timing was perfect!

We used to close down bars, now we close down oncologists' offices...

Best wishes for great scan results! Let us know.

52 degrees here in the Rock today, cloudy. Not many out on the River Trail. Not a bad day to have the trail mosty to yourself. 25 miles.
