The problem with a lot of these dog sports is that they take tons of time. The field trials and hunt tests are all day events and I've also started doing Nosework with both dogs- sniffer dog type of work and then you can go to trials and compete in those. But they are mostly all day events too.
There's a dog sport called Barn Hunt that dogs seem to really enjoy. They have to look for rats in sealed tubes hidden in a barn type setting. I probably wont do it with my dogs because they dogs wind up jumping on and off hay bales and that's not good for dachshund backs. But I'd probably consider it if I had a big dog. FAST CAT looks fun too. Its lure coursing for all breeds, not just sighthounds. Dobes compete against doberman times, dachshunds compete against dachshund times, etc. So its not dobie v. greyhound. It looks pretty fun and is one of the few dog sports that's not an all day thing.
For a Dobie I imagine you'd want to look for sports in which intelligence, obedience and athleticism are necessary. Barn Hunt + FAST CAT would cover those bases. Obviously you could do pure obedience or agility too.
Lol, hounds are not big on obedience and I actually don't try to instill that much of the concept that they are supposed to listen to me. Dachshunds are supposed to show their people where the quarry is- rabbit, fox, badger, rat, bird, etc. So they are not supposed to listen to you so much as show you. Thats the true life real story of why my dogs dont listen to me.
(Just kidding: they do, but I encourage them not to take that too far)

Noggin is all better.
But getting back into racing shape has been tough. I lost muscle, gained an alarming amount of fat, and fitness went to squat zero. I got back into fairly decent shape by Thanksgiving and then the dachsund field trial season started and Puppy Love was on such a roll that I had to go with that. Its very time consuming, I was probably out rabbiting with the dogs 3-4 hours per week and the trials and hunt tests are literally sun up to sun down, for 8 weekends from right after Thanksgiving to mid Feb. Eats up a lot of training time, plus it trashes your legs being out in the field all day. So now I am back to only slightly better than squat zero fitness with my first race coming up. Oy.

Hit and run from behind a couple weeks ago. I think I remember being hit, but the next thing I remember is standing up and talking to strangers and the next 10 min are a bit spotty. No idea if there was any LOC. My helmet was cracked and scraped and I had a big abrasion on top of my scalp, although I was wearing a 2-ply cap, but not so much as a headache. I asked my wife to talk to me from time to time and figured I’d go to the hospital if I started feeling...focal.
Strangely, I had bilateral ulnar neuropathies at the elbows, which hurt like hell for a few days and have left me with some very odd itchy spots on the fingers. It’s all in the territory where I have sensory changes from my old c-spine injury, so maybe that has something to do with it. Otherwise, banged up a little, but not too bad to ride again in a couple of days. Back still hurts and I’m feeling a little snake bit.

Hey I have a bike question...
One of my winter projects is to put in new brake and shifter cables and housings on the Habanero.
Is there a trick to cut the housing?? When I use a regular bike cable cutter it seems to make the metal housing liner crimped at the end which is no bueno. In the past I have “fixed” this using a nail to ream edge open but I suspect there is a better way. Suggestions??

Yeah I had to just go with the flow when Puppy Love caught the rabbiting bug. Its very cool to see a dog do something they're really good at doing.

Man, Merlin has an extra 10% off of Fulcrum wheels, which brings the Racing 7 wheelset (Centerlock Disc, Tubeless, 19mm int width, ~1700g) down to $208 shipped. Now, they're not the most spritely wheels ever, but at that price and (assumed) quality, it's almost a how-can-I-resist spare wheelset.

I started the new job yesterday. The first of my long list of jobs that I took because I like the work. Two Feedback Sports workstands are provided. They are quite tippy. Made me thankful for my PCS10 at home.

Super windy this morning.
Was up all night because it sounded like someone was in my house. Kept being sent down to investigate, I still cannot figure out what I was hearing.

Heathpack, great to hear from you again! Looks like you're having tons of fun with the doggies. It can be hard to find time when taking care of/spending time with little ones no matter the species. Glad to hear your getting on the bike to have more fun.

Wind just blew down a section of my fence. This is a rental property and for the last year we have been trying to get them to fix it. Basically the whole fence is rotted, but this section was worse than others. The neighbors behind us have complained because it really is an eye sore. Classic the owner doesn’t want to fix anything, has sent three different people to look at it with the hope they would say it could be patched. All three have said the whole thing needs to come down and still nothing.
