Must be the camera angle. It definitely is. My 56cm is long gone. This one is stamped 54cm and with the 80mm stem, it's still a bit long. Still figuring out my options. I have the OEM components, all in good shape, and they'd clean up well. That's likely what I'll do, but I can go 8sp Ergo or 7sp Synchro, or 10-sp downtube shifted....

Its strange I guess but I never think Campy. I guess since its rarely seen in this neck of the woods. Yeah that bike should be Campy even if it was built in Japan. Or I guess it was. Did WSI have frames assembled in Europe?

Not quite. Definitely made in Italy. Parts are all Italian. It's much more Cinelli than anything remotely Japanese. Frames produced in Bussero, on the outskirts of Milan, by Chirico, longtime colleague of Cino Cinelli, and whose son built frames for Cinelli for 12 years. The deal, for one shipping container of bikes, was negotiated by Alan Goldsmith on behalf of WSI. He went on to consult on the later Ironman models. He also sold bikes and gear via Bikeology; his wife and maybe him, too, were involved in ParkPre; and last I heard, he was consulting for Specialized.

Campy 10sp DT...
Campy's bar end/TT shifters are the opposite of Shimano. As such, they can be used as DT shifters, with a backing plate that has a longer "ear." The difference between them and 9sp or 10sp DA downtube shifters is that they will keep shifting...If you had an 18sp rear cassette, spaced to Campy 10, it will shift it. The other difference is the shifters line up along the DT, like most of them do.

Options
A: OEM, like you see on the poster.
B: '85 Super Record 2x7 friction including wheels.
C: 2x7 Synchro; would need a freewheel change.
D: 2x8 Record Ergo; wide double or triple.
E: 2x10 Campy; would need wheels and RD.
F: 2x10 Dura Ace (down tube)

I guess it depends on if the bike is for show or for go. Not feeling the DA on a bike with Italian DNA. Not feeling OEM(or NR derailleurs) That RD has been around since when, 1967? I know it was made through 1987, but doesn't need to be on mid 80s bikes. It also looks like a marine invertebrate to me. It looks like a squid, specifically. The shifting would be up to what you like best. I have to admit, that is an impressive pump peg they put on the frame. Does the fork have the tange reinforcements on the inside of the blades?

Show A: OEM
Show B: Super Record
Go A: Record (Ergo) 8sp
Go B: 10sp Campy.
Also, not a Tange fork. It's a Cinelli bike, Cinelli fork.

First of all that is a beauty of a Cinelli I would vote for OEM cause what the heck, you can always change it later. Disclaimer I sold a nice set of Ultegra Mavic 9 speed wheels to finance a set of vintage 7 speed GPX Wobler wheels for my 89 Allez build so what do I know?

Show AND go: Dura Ace 740X 6 or 7 speed, freehubl hubs, polished TB-14 rims, Vittoria gumwalls.

There was an Ironman on Facebook Marketplace here in Chicago last week. No name or description given as I recall, but the photo showed an unmistakable Ironman, similar to the one I had briefly some years back, 1989 Expert, Smoke Blue/White. It was a 56 or 58cm, too big for me but I knew it would be right for someone here. Looked original but there was no seat or seatpost in the photo. I replied within a few hours of the bike being listed but never heard back from the seller. In fact I've heard back from only a couple of the maybe 10-12 queries I've made about bikes on Marketplace, no way to know if the lister even gets the question. Ah well...

I see one on eBay for sale, listed as a "poor man's Cinelli." 60% above MSRP and almost double the last selling price.

Tangs? Tines? But yes. What was the question? It is a Cinelli, made to spec for Centurion. The name (from the poster) is Cinelli Equipe (Team) Centurion.

After comparing various Campy components on Velobase, I say OEM except change the RD to Super Record 2nd gen. Those are sweet looking RDs. I like that Mistral crankset also.

Calling all "Ironman Carbon" or "Carbon R" Owners
1. Where is the SN located on these frames? (same spot or Different between the two?)
2. Is there any differences in the frame/fork between the two models?
3. Were the original decals waterslide or std adhesive back?

Say, did I mention I went to the Vintage Centurion Bicycles website to get some info on Robbie's Cinelli Equipe? If,....I haven't mentioned it before, that is a great site! Just thought it needed to be said.

2. Same frame/fork on U.S. distribution models. Non U.S. models forks slightly different.
3. Standard adhesive back.
One thing to add is the Ironman Carbon was a one year model ('88). However the carbon-r may have been a two or possibly three year model based on SN.

1. Inside the L dropout, sort of a dot stencil.
2. The later models (after '89, and outside the US market), had a different fork crown. The original crown was attached high up and outside the arc of the wheel. This can contribute to a gyro effect, and created a long fork, which being aluminum, tended to flex. A lot. The reconfigured fork, while still aluminum, was lower, inside the arc of the wheel, which not only reduced gyro effect, but also created a stiffer fork.
3. Adhesive back decals. Under what appeared to be only one coat of clear.
