Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

They also refuse to work on some bikes if you've worked on them yourself, do not advocate wearing helmets except for only racing, and push the whole "ride in normal clothing" thing. Yeah... no thanks, that ain't the shop for me.

My theory is that the (surviving older) carbon fiber frames of the future will be found (barn finds LOL!) in the Twilight Zone (PNW Coast) where epoxy UV degradation is less. Then again our rain and salt air will take out anything but titanium. CF frame resins has no long term survivability chances in the Sunbelt unless you are a freaky night rider. Might as well become a blood sucker and move to Forks.

I'd say it's pretty strong if it can stay intact with a whatever it is shoved thru the chain stay. Doesn't the site say it's a blinkie?

Are there not any CF frame bikes with a clear coating to protect from UV damage?

I've read that the Calfee "nude" finish has no UV protection, and needs to be protected with something providing a UV block.

Actually I know there are plenty of CF bikes that are painted some solid color where the weave is not visible at all. Are those frames still susceptible to UV damage?

Do BIC lighters cost $3K?
Bad comparison. CF bicycle frames have only been popular for about 20 years. So you should compare their longevity to steel frames from it's first 20 years as a popular material.

Yes, and how many of those steel bikes from the 1890s do you still see around today? Very few. Meanwhile there are still plenty of 20 year old carbon bikes still around today.

Just over a week ago, I ran my CF Kuota Ksano into a telephone pole at about 15 mph (rider weight 250) hitting with handlebar, stem and front tube. The bike stopped on impact and I continued into the pole, also stopping on impact. No damage to the frame. Not sure what the that says about CF vs other materials but CF is definitely strong. Me? I'm still healing.

Sensationalist crap and rampant paranoia. They should rename their shop Henny Penny's Bike Repair.

SO CF is bad... but we're OK with using it in the most delicate, dangerous part of the bike - the fork.

The mind boggles.

I guess I better turn in the Ferrari with its carbon frame and instead get me a nice all-steel Yugo.

What a bunch of maroons!

PS: I don't have a Ferrari but IF I did...

It's cute that they have a letter from some business partner explaining why a particular fork failed ... but they take it out of context and seem to imply that all carbon parts will fail, in some similar manner.

The ironic part is that I have this exact fork. It came with my Soloist.

I don't get the pic of all those seat posts with circled areas. Just looks like a few scuffs on most of those seat posts. Why is that such a huge deal? Or are they not just scuff marks?
