It has been a bummer, but it could be worse. From what the doctor said, surgery is less than a 10min procedure for this sort of thing and is about as minor as surgery gets, recovery from surgery is quick, and I'm allowed to ride without worrying about causing further damage in the meantime. Maybe the worst part has been jumping through the various health insurance hoops to get this taken care of.

Did a moderately hard group ride last Friday, really fun. Coffee after. I was feeling pretty good on the bike, it didn't feel that hard. 38 miles/1500 feet.
Saturday I rode with Girlz Gone Riding, a womens only MTB group with chapters throughout SoCal. I have been a member on FB for awhile but never rode with them until last month, I was leery of the women's only format. But then I did that Trek Dirt Series last summer (women's only MTB clinic) and there really is a lot to be said for it. Not always being last or least-bold or least-strong is psychologically a positive, in and of itself a little confidence boosting. I had a great time on the previous ride I did and on the ride this past weekend, which was the holiday ride and Christmas party after. Met a very interesting woman at the lunch after, she does epic multiday mtb stage races. I could see aspiring to that. Anyway, strong ride for me, went out with the Blue/Intermediate group and outclimbed everyone, even the 20-somethings, which was again a confidence builder. Totally beautiful day. 16 miles/1800 ft
Sunday I did a low cadence roadbike workout with some climbing afterward. So tired, but I just went slow and enjoyed the morning. 30 miles/3000 ft.
Tuesday and today I did TT workouts on the trainer. Getting it done but I've needed a lot of willpower these past two workouts. Yesterday was 4 x 4 @114% and some big gear intervals after, today was some really tough 30 sec over/unders followed by 2 x 15 @105%. I have no snap so the over/unders were very tough.
Group coffee ride tomorrow and then rest day on Friday.
Great week on the bike.

Actually rode outside today since I had an hour before sunset after leaving work early. A beautiful night, albeit pretty cold once the sun went down. No filters or any bs to that picture. Just a pretty night on the gravel bike.
Heading back to SEA for the xmas break and will be without workouts and training fora few weeks. Gonna try to squeeze in what i can, but family events have overcome us and that takes precedent in a big way.

Ran for 90 min nonstop last night. Just trying to maximize aerobic time and weight management.
That's coming off the 3 hour gravel race this past Sunday.
I'll get in some pursuit TT bike workouts if weather permits during the holiday breaks.

Got in a solid 2x20' sweet spot session in this morning. Was only a little annoyed when a guy on an ebike passed me with 5' to go on the second interval but then didn't really drop me. He sort of hung out in front of me about 10m. Totally unintentional it seems because he never looked back and I didn't see a mirror. At one point I crept up to his wheel and then I couldn't hold the target wattage because of the draft (it was a big one: he was sitting straight up on a dutch style), so I tried to go offset without being in the other lane of the trail. And he couldn't take turns as well as I could on my road bike so that was a thing too.
It was a pretty cool bike though. If all I did was commute, that would be a great option.

In the midst of what should be my biggest volume week preparing for 2019 at 18 hrs, and feeling some fatigue. About -20 on this off day.
Tomorrow I'm going to log 2 hrs of MTB, then hit up the road bike for 7 hours on Saturday. Then try to be alive enough to make it down to the airport for a 4 PM flight to Texas to spend Xmas w my fiancee's family out there.

Made it to Seattle and went for a short run (25min) today to feel out the knee. A month ago, running was a no go. Today it was tender on the downhill but otherwise felt good as normal and pace was just fine. Physical therapy is magic.

I've wrapping up 7 days of workouts out of the last 8 before I head to Costa Rica for a week of rest, ambling around rainforests and swimming in salt water. 3 days of lifting, 1 xc ski, and 3 good rides ending with a 2 hour hard ride today. Not the 18 hours of volume of Tmonk, but the same idea. Merry xmas everyone!

We returned from our cycling trip to New Zealand on Thursday - 12 nights, 8 days of cycling, 22 hours, 330 miles, 22,000 feet of climbing and TSS 1244. The terrain was all challenging with a lot of punchy 12 to 15% climbing. My wife and I rode our road bikes and rode all of this together. I may post more on the trip if some are interested.

All we had to do was cycle. As far as group dynamics, there were no pelotons per se with each couple doing their own thing and we had meals together. We did see other riders at some stops along the way.

Back at it in SD. Fiesta yesterday and a ride along the coast today. I am carrying a lot of fatigue but riding well. Today's weather was mid 60s and sunny.

Race ride this morning, then tacked on another 50 miles for 100 total, 5 hours as planned.
Team had a good formula for the sprints: @Ygduf would attack early off the front, stringing it out and making it fast. Then the three of us behind would do a proper leadout and take it.
11 hours for the week so far, a few more planned for tomorrow.

@hermes that sounds like a great trip. I love the idea of riding from one port to another, and New Zealand would be a great place to do it.
My group coffee ride on Thursday was just one other person- temps were in the 30s for the ride and everyone else went to spin class. Yesterday was a rest day and today I did a climbing quickie on the TT bike- just a few hill repeats of a bike path hill. I feel weirdly strong (as in the climbing doesn’t seem that hard) but aerobically merely meh of late. The mtn bike influence, I assume.
Tomorrow meeting a friend early for a long fireroad climb on the mtb.
Next weekend I’m taking the doxie to her first Field Trial (2 days) and also on Friday to a day of Earthdog work, so I’ve been walking her tons off leash of late. Enough to create data files for the walks, 5-6 hours this week. Trying to build her stamina up for working rabbits and rats. Although once she gets wind of critters, her adrenaline surges and she works works works.

Does the doxie wear a GPS or a doggie power meter to create the data files? Does doxie get workouts from R'Ex?

Some more running and a decent little car ride with my parents down to southern Oregon to see my grandparents. Went and ran around the high school my dad went to and nearly took a strava segment but I've forgotten how to run fast after all this injury time.

Had a really productive session in the gym yesterday. Some good jump squats and a little bit of everything else. Wish I had the hour and a half to do a full gym sesh all the time but with work and riding I keep it shorter and more focussed
