No different from Snowall in the novel Animal Farm from George Orwell, saying a windmill was a horrible idea, but when Snowball got to power, said "let's build a windmill". I see this too often in politics lately.
Can the commerce clause be used to regulate interstate bicycle lanes?

I just wish everyone would think this. Usually, it's the opposite. "Don't build a wall". they screamed. Then when it's their turn...."Let's build a wall!". And the sheep cheered.

Wait, the sheep cheered for a wall? Do you have the extended version of Animal Farm?
Generally, the way feds can get states and cities to build bike lanes is to tie some federal money to it.

Yeah sure. All those who wish to "count" it should petition the appropriate Federal agencies (perhaps the Federal Railroad Administration ( FRA) which is an agency in the United States Department of Transportation) to invoke the so-called "commerce clause" in order to "regulate" bike lanes as well as rail trails. That should stir up a certain element to wail and gnash their teeth ranting about power hungry, money grubbing "b'crats."

Y'know he does that because he can't spell "bureau."

I prefer my shortened version------------it is for people with short attention spans. Oh and it gives the nit pickers something to whine about.

as a public sector bureaucrat, I find it rich when someone decries bureaucrats when simultaneously benefiting from the many programs overseen by folks such as myself, especially for individuals of a certain age.

Great info, but didn’t you know that @Koyote already back-pedaled mightily on that statement.

Even if it were true, the melodrama would be pretty funny.

Similarly with cops, airline traffic controllers, surgeons, school teachers and power-line maintainers. But just getting by in a marginally-functioning society isn't everyone's goal.
Also, don't you mean "50% fewer of them"?
