Got up, watched Ronde, got a message from a friend about agroup ride leaving afterwards. Rode to it, decent group, but not exactly what I was looking for. Friend and I split off and rode one the bigger climbs. Descended back down and split off and I rode home. 105 mi, 271 TSS, 5:15 minutes, 4200 ft of climbing with a lot of wind.

Puts me at just under 16 hours for the week with only one ride on the trainer and 3 rides on the mtb. It's finally bike season!

Yesterday I did a day trip w my wife for once so didn't ride. Today a friend was visiting for a few hours, but I got in 1:20 early w 24 minutes at 90% feeling sluggish and it was hard. But then did 65 minutes in the afternoon just hammering up all the random hills I saw at 96% np.

life got in the way of riding yesterday, so rode today, which is usually my off day. 2hrs with 6x15 sweet spot, got through first 4 ok, lowered my target 3% for the final 2, maybe I needed more fuel besides my morning coffee to get me through the workout

2x30' sweet spot. Did a lot of high intensity last week so my legs were heavier than expected.

Sat = 4hrs mostly relaxed low z2 with some work in the 4th hour to see how much my watts drop off after 2k kj
Sun = 4hrs with 3.5 solid tempo. It was not in any way what I would call reasonable, but it was pretty fun.

Saturday - 35 miles with a friend, really windy, pulled pretty much the whole time. Took him home, went solo and did some kilo efforts.
Sunday - an hour zone 3 on the trainer.

5 mile hike Saturday, 6-hour solo ride yesterday (with way too much climbing).

Good news is my CTL is also climbing!

Saturday, I put the power pedals on the tandem and did 2.5 hours with my wife along the coast mostly tempo / threshold with a VO2 climb.

Sunday, two hours of endurance tempo work.

We saw the new Tomb Raider movie. We come out and my wife says, "I have two comments." I cannot wait.
"I have to work on my agility and pull-ups." Well, we will have to lay out the plastic ladder at the gym and you can do agility drills plus work on your pull-ups.

The new Laura Croft is a much more athletic and scrappy heroine than Angelina Jolie doing more hand to hand combat and stunts. At the beginning of the movie, Laura is a bike delivery person who takes on a group of men in a bike race (sort of) through the streets of London. Angelina Jolie, in the character of Laura, rode motorcycles.

Is that from TARWAPM? There's s similar workout with 1' recovery intervals which I recall only ever doing once but it was pretty tiring.

I think so. (It's written on piece of tape that I stick to a storage cabinet in the garage next to where I hang my bike.) I have collected different workouts from different sources, including this fine thread, that I can't always remember where I got them.

Fiesta hour of power. After one warmup lap of z2/z3, I did 20 minutes of 2'/3' under / under. WTF is an under /under. That is a weak over / under - tempo/low threshold. I rode the harder effort in the drops. And then 20 minutes more of tempo. So one hour of constant power, no stops, flat riding with some wind. It seemed harder than the metrics indicated.

2 hours w/ 56 minutes of sweet spot/threshold over various intervals with varying degrees of interruption due to construction, descents, stops, etc.

Race ride is back! Fun times! Especially since I'm in shape right now and a lot of peopel are just pulling the bikes back out. I managed to pop the masters nat'l champ that has kicked my ass so many times at this ride. Feelsgoodman.

90mins z2 today, going to probably be off the next couple of days, I'm getting a minor medical procedure done that'll involve a small back incision so I planned it this week because it's supposed to be a rest week. I could use the break too, aside from my race saturday, haven't felt particularly lively on the bike even though my training stress is pretty close to neutral/positive.

Random workout this morning, mostly on Fiesta:

1x9' at 105%
1x30' at 93%
1x4' at 117%
1x2.5' at 123%

Last interval was meant to be 3' but I got caught at the stoplight near the top of Linda Vista Rd.

Interestingly enough the 30' interval proved to be far and away the most difficult. I think it's probably tightness in the legs due to track last night; keeping the legs flexed for that long wasn't easy.

2.5 hours yesterday at 207 TSS. Was trying to hit 10+ minutes of accumulated time at FRC (about ~155% ftp) but only managed 9 mins. A bit cracked by the end.

Today 1.5 hours with some aerobic interval type stuff. 127 TSS.

And that's about that. Two easy days, then a little bit Saturday morning, then a 7:30 PM crit Sat. night. Time for the first race of the year reality check.

Went out to do some strava stuff for funz with real easy pedalling in between. Got out there and my body felt like ****. Reminds me of how I felt when I was on a no-carb diet, just nothing above threshold and a twingey pain when I go hard.

Can't figure it out except I haven't been drinking enough water and I haven't been sleeping enough. Gonna have a big dinner, drink a few liters and get to bed early. Hopefully we'll be back up and running tomorrow.

Today was better. Got out for some sets of 15/15's and 30/30's with the plan to get as much of the sets done as possible then hook up with the team group ride and roll home with them. It so happens I was able to get it all done (8 minutes of 15's, 2 sets of 10minutes of 30's) and then get a good fast ride in around antelope island and back home.

I think I was just tired yesterday. my PMC seems to suggest the same thing. Amazing how one bad ride can screw with mindset and one good ride can bring it right back.

trying to force myself to take the day off, didn't do anything yesterday either, since I had a minor medical procedure on my back so I've got some stitches. although being on a trainer shouldn't really put a strain on my upper back, I suppose it's better to be cautious, and it's a rest week so I want to make sure I'm in a good place for the next block, and what I hope will be a month with racing every weekend. Not sure where to take my training next, did trainerroad base programs and general build, not sure if I really want to go on with a specialty plan of theirs (really hoping to just ride outside more) or just cobble something together on my own.

Second day off in a row due to work and weather. I might hop on Zwift this evening. Probably just watch Jeopardy and fall asleep on the couch like the old man I am.
