I'll put some thought into that. Any idea if there are a bunch of jackasses drawing on baseball cards with marker pens to "improve" them?

Oh good, now we're "jackasses" as well, thanks for your input.

Good stuff.

BTW, I don't really have a problem with you ****ing up your nice old bikes. I have got mine, so there will be at least a few nice examples left after you fellows go back to whatever rock you came out from under. It's just that when the thread went from fooling with old Univegas and Panasonics to defacing frames that may well have been built by Ugo himself, well, I couldn't contain myself.

Hopefully you'll all find a way to live with that.

You know that it's really not that complicated to take the old parts out of a box and put them back on right?

Geez...

You're lucky that thing doesn't have Eggbeater pedals on it. Otherwise you might find it suddenly riding off with a new owner someday.

If you see it sitting unattended and get the urge to grab and go, make sure you close the rear skewer first.

Just looking out for your safety.

If I see it unattended, I'll leave the bag, so you can put the ransom in that.....

I'd leave the Brooks too, just so you'd know that I took it.

BBM, that bike really needs a black saddle.

six jours get a grip things just are not as bad as you seem to think they are... life is all good even if folks put newer components on their older bikes.... that is not so bad after all... some of us old folks like to have one foot in the past and one in the present... makes us not feel so old. Or something... heheheheeheh

Not only that, but the new drivetrain bits are sooooooo much better than that nasty old crap. Why squat in the dirt around a fire when you have a nice warm house you can live in.

What old master wouldn't be thrilled that their craftsmanship has survived the test of time and is still being ridden decades later?

As a courier, I find that the durability, crisp handling, and all-day comfort of vintage steel, combined with the reliability and safety of a modern drivetrain and braking system, makes for a fine city bike. Ergo levers allow you to maintain a heads-up riding position in traffic at all times, and as for braking, get back to me after you've worked a hilly, rainy Vancouver winter on a set of 1980's Modolo Speedy's.

I've broken or worn out original vintage components, and it's often not economically viable to source period-correct replacements, if even possible. Why not upgrade instead of replace?

Good words, Roam. Nothing wrong with upgrading certain bikes.

Robbie would you post a close up or two of the gray finish? Is it marbled?
