Even if this were my size, I wouldn't pay more than about $80. First thing I would do is yank that saddle off and put on the free to customers table at my shop. The basked would come off next.

Mehhh at $200, I say you overpaid considering how the SS/FG resale market has essentially crashed.
The vast majority of the gear on it is run of the mill. The only thing going for it is frameset.

That saddle is not worth $60 used. The rolls is the least popular of the heritage italian saddles.


Vintage 80's Schwinn Madisons are actually very common.
Kid you not, I've actually seen more vintage ones in the wild than new.

At the end of the day, just ride it.

Thanks guys. I have been riding the bike. It's very thin and light compared to most of the modern bikes and I love the minimalist look to it. Too bad theres plenty of scratches but that all right. It shows that the bike has been ridden a lot compared to a pretty bike thats just sitting there

Bikes are worthless! Cars are the wave of the future. Only poor people drive bikes, it is a fact. You don't see President Donald Trump, our glorious Commander in Chief who will bring us glory against the infidels, driving a bike around like some poor person who has had multiple failed businesses.

The only bike one should ever even think about sitting on is at the gym and doesn't go anywhere and is for spinning only which is one of the many great ways to use an SUV to get you places.

Yet to find a single person that has knee issues from riding a fixed gear. I am going into 4th year now or so of riding fixed. I have no knee issues at all. SPD's and properly adjusted cleats along with a front brake and my knees are fine. Not much in the way of hills here either so no serious mashing.

How so? I've sold plenty of vintage track bikes over the past year or so and know a lot of other people who have too, therefore I'm basing what I say on what I know and have experienced.

The market is alive and well. In fact, I'd even go so far as to say it's better than ever now that people are finally getting sick of aluminum bull**** and steel is finally making a comeback. Every decent vintage track bike or frame that comes through the shop doesn't stay very long and sells for a good price. Kinda weird considering nobody wants them...

For better or worse the vintage market, no matter the object, is always an exception to normal market trends due to an unsteady/ unknown supply and demand.

However, it is still influenced somewhat by trends in general as there is the possibility of somebody simply wanting a vintage bike to use, yet hardcore collectors looking for and subsequently paying for what they want will still remain. A direct reflection of that is the increased respect and popularity of steel/ vintage steel in the SS/FG scene now.

On top of that, the observation may still vary depending on what is exactly is sold and its subsequent perception to the buyer.

Not helping Schwinn's perception is the brand being "watered-down" by being sold in places such as walmart with quality to match. Their recent trend of using "throw-back" graphics for their nicer models has also stolen the thunder from their vintage bikes.

Sure, mileage may vary for this statement but I'm just stating what I've witnessed of how the scene has slowed down in recent years, as have the suppliers that popped up during that time.

I'd say vintage track bikes (OP's excluded) are completely different market from almost anything made in the past 15 years.

So Scrod and Leuky are both on track in different ways. Also I'm sure geography plays a big role too. Gotta think southern California, with bike-riding weather most of the year, is going to have better resale on bikes period than say the middle of some midwestern state. That or RG on the whole is an outlier since so many people across the country shop there for SS/FG.

Also, you can't really compare an amazing specimen like that 1975 Raleigh to much else.

I would say that bike you are asking about in the OP is worth about $100 - $120.


Now, based on that $3500 Raleigh, I would say my 1973 VISCOUNT in original condition and I even have the original saddle and lambert toe clips all made by Lambert England is worth about $3600 then. Yo, I'm rolling in da cash!

The problem with coal extraction has been these liberal commies in the coal industry take it out of dirty ground, President Trump has figured out if you simply clean the ground with a little Simple Green the coal is clean and of course green as well.

Don't forget, if you build a golf course that is so so green it offsets any dirtiness in the clean coal. But knee injuries from bike riding really is addressed with running, especially running down hill! Cleanest of clean coal! Yes! And your post about the dirty ground is the real problem is spot on. You have a job opportunity in this current administration. !
