My wife hates when I use socks with sandals and insists that it's the biggest faux pax a person can make. What's the big deal? I like sandals and sometimes socks are more comfortable.

Sandles are very casual and socks are not. Similar to wearing a knit tie with a Polo shirt.

So if I wear socks with little bicycles, or peppers on them it's OK?

I spent my college years in Birkenstocks and socks. Socks don't really work as well with Chacos though.

if comfort = style then sweatpants, track suits, snuggies, and sandals with socks would all be fashionable. but that's not how it works.

I will wear my sandals! I will wear them with pride! I will wear them with pants, sans socks! I will wear them with shorts, and sometimes I might use socks! I will use them in the winter with neoprene socks!

I will proudly stand out as a fashion reject. I don't have to care, I'm married and I don't want anything on the side

I think I'd have to be on the lookout for a new mrs. Italuminium if I start rocking Birckies with socks with bikes on them. Strange, she thinks bikes with low bars and no fenders are "scary" and "silly". Halfgrant.

The ones she finds silliest are the Richard Sachs socks (no, I don't do kit, I just like them) and the socks with high wheelers.

Faux pas = false step,

That's pretty subtle!

Anyway, I think the real issue is wearing sandles with BVD's on platform pedals. We shouldn't lose sight of that.

My wife broke me of the habit several years ago. She would equate it with wearing a jockstrap over your shorts. What can I say, I have been semi-domesticated. She also makes sure that I get haircuts on regular basis.

We've only been married for near two years; I'm sure she'll wear me down soon. She already has me sneezing into my hand, shaving on weekends, occasionally wearing non-t shirts, shaving my head, not cursing in front of children, not screaming at random strangers and wearing button downs at work. She's making headway!

She even changes the sheets! I never knew that was something you had to do

I like sandals. I like them when they are warm. But when it gets cooler I like to put socks on. Sometimes I'm still wearing the sandals. They are like convertibles. You can wear socks + sandals in the morning and then when it warms up ditch the socks.

If people have an issue with what I'm wearing they can shove it. If my wife has a problem with what I'm wearing she can shove it too. She doesn't, and I don't tell her what to wear either.
