I donated my 82 Nishiki, to a local Charity

it was tough to do, as i bought it new, and redoing it got me back into bikes and into C&V, but I found a replacement that was cool (SR Semi pro) and I know it is going to a good cause
will miss the head badge

Yep, saw that, so not in the cards, another frame already on the way and one teed up that the funding isn't in place for yet.

I didn’t so much give up on it as I admitted that I just wasn’t riding it as much as it deserved. It’s a very nice bike, but it wasn’t meeting a unique need in my stable so I found a new home for it.

I lost my workshop and most of my storage space in 2020, so I have been downsizing ever since.

First notable one out this year was this Merckx Century. My size, so parting was a little more challenging.


Then I moved this nice Tomassini Super Prestige on to a new home, not my size, so parting was easier.


I also let go a 1985 Specialized Allez SE, a little big for me anyway.


#4 was a chrome Katakura Silk, kept the one my size.


The ones I miss the most are several MTBs: A 1984 Diamondback Mean Streak, a 1985 Specialized Stumpjumper, a Rodriguez MTB, a 1983 Stumpy, and a 1984 Trek 850 (back when the 850 was a top of the line model).

Trust me, I can completely understand! I am giving myself 2022 to determine which of the stable stays.Including the six or seven in the queue. I sort of happened into the AD SLE I have...couldn't resist the challenge of building it up, and saving the paint with unique touch ups. Well actually so far I have resisted since it is not built up.

Glad you kept the one silk...

I would have had a tough time letting go of a Rodriguez.

Umm. I don't think you'll need to play the N-1 game any time soon...that is a cavernous space...! I can send you a few bikes to fill the space...!

And...my OCD kicked in...the bikes on the black bar are in a different position...

Thought N= was lower but when I didn't a recount nothing had changed. I wonder if some of them have started breeding???

Forgot about these two. The Trek 510 I got a couple of decades ago and had an area framebuilder add several braze-ons, after which I rattlecanned it Rustoleum Titanium. Everybody needs a little Ti, right?


This one was not so much an N-1 or a flip as it was a fetch-and-send. I mentioned this dumpster find in the At The Co-op thread. I did not initially get it, merely posted pix of it, but someone asked me to fish it out for him so I did. Tall Nishiki Baskroads.

Selling what I believe to be a 1977 or 1978, Tom Ritchey road frame, fork and alloy Campagnolo Record headset. The frame is fully fillet brazed as was Tom's specialty.

61cm seat tube c-t
57cm top tube c-c
1" threaded Campagnolo alloy headset
130mm rear spacing
27.2 seat post

I purchased this frame from the second owner (that is what he told me) who moved from Northern California to Swarthmore, Pa to teach at Swarthmore College in the 1980's.

The bike sat in his damp basement for a couple of decades and as such needed a complete restoration to bring it back to riding condition. He also drilled the brake mounting holes so he could mount recessed brake calipers.

I sent it to Franklin Frames where it was stripped, primed and re-painted in Imron Metallic Berry. The decals are vinyl transfers from Velocals.

I had Jack at Franklin Frames inspect the brake mounting holes ( he said they were fine) cold set the rear to 130mm and add a second set of water bottle mounts. The bike was aligned (front & rear) and shifted flawlessly when I had it set up with 10 speed indexed Shimano components.

I sold three frames this year:

Miyata One Thousand(a bit small, so replaced with Expedition)
Palo Alto(small, and kept the parts for other projects)
Cannondale R500

Bought a cheap Giant Kronos that was a few minutes from home. Flushed the shifters and gave it a bath.. made a few dollars.

These are the ones that are listed locally and I tried to make N-1 this year. I expect once spring hits a couple of them will move.


Got this back from my son, refurbished it and now it's time to move it on.

Taken in trade for a deal with 4 bikes going out. Don't need another Triple. Great ride though and won't hurt me to keep it. I just would rather have the space back.

Been trying to sell local for two years. Cannot ride this since a bike wreck that separated my shoulder. Sometime this winter I'll probably just break it down and keep all the new components as spares.

Got this about the time I decided to downsize. So I refurbished it and then posted it for sale at a loss. Then finally I took it out for a real ride during my "19 mph challenge" and it easily smoked every other bike I had. And it's super comfortable too. So I doubled the price in the ad but left it up for sale more as a joke.

And I keep telling my self to get rid of these two "duplicate" bikes but the passionate bike lover in me keeps saying no to the rational part of me.


Amazing bike but I have a pair of these. Even though this one is 2 lbs lighter with better components I just so love something about how the other feels under me on the road. I built this trying to replicate or better the feel of the other one.

Now that I have the Team Z Maillot Jaune this is a bit redundant. But it's given me so many great rides over the years as well as holding some PR's. So yeah, just can't see parting with it.

I really think this is a disease...

I purchased this frame from the second owner (that is what he told me) who moved from Northern California to Swarthmore, Pa to teach at Swarthmore College in the 1980's.

The bike sat in his damp basement for a couple of decades and as such needed a complete restoration to bring it back to riding condition. He also drilled the brake mounting holes so he could mount recessed brake calipers.

I sent it to Franklin Frames where it was stripped, primed and re-painted in Imron Metallic Berry. The decals are vinyl transfers from Velocals.

I had Jack at Franklin Frames inspect the brake mounting holes ( he said they were fine) cold set the rear to 130mm and add a second set of water bottle mounts. The bike was aligned (front & rear) and shifted flawlessly when I had it set up with 10 speed indexed Shimano components.
Amazing. Sadly about 1cm too small for me in height and length, but it looks and sounds like you've done a great job with the restoration.
