Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How are they doing with your big fire? The biggest one near here is almost out.
That drop isn't abnormal. We have strange weather here.

Good deal on the fires. Things are better in the fire news here. The biggest is like 75% contained.

It's the lack of humidity, I imagine. Dry air is faster to heat up and cool down. I remember days in Pennsylvania when it was 90 degrees during the day and only cooled down to the high 70s by the coolest part of the night.

I also remember not being able to sleep well those nights.

Not just dry air, but much less of it as insulation. When I moved out there I got caught by a few fall afternoon rides where my teeth were chattering on a flat-out sprint home after being hot on the way out.

I get it too, as we do before a lot of long weekends. They even call it “early release”, like prison.

There's a whole loop at ~mile 20 that you could easily lop off and that's what I'd suggest you do.

I rode to the Terminal then home. Going to do a short 25 mile ride tomorrow that includes Forbidden Drive. Got a lot of stuff to do before I leave next Friday.

Have not ridden up Nockamixon way in ages.

My favorite saddle got wonky a few weeks back. The shell or whatever supports it on the rails is broken/loose so it moves all over and pops and cracks while riding. I hammered a piece of metal in there but it just got worse. They aren't made anymore so I've been agonizing about what to replace it with. I put on the Fizik that came on the bike but I don't like it and so I've been riding the other bike which has a saddle which is ok for short rides. I don't want to order one for $150 or more and not like it and I don't want to start a thread in the 41 asking what saddle to buy.

Last Saturday I rode a few miles with an old friend who has tons of parts at home. He said he has 2 Selle Italia Flite something saddles at home and yesterday we finally got together and I bought one still in the box for $50. I rode it around the neighborhood this morning and it might just work. If I love it I will buy the other one he has, as well. I also bought a jersey from him for $30. I tried a new helmet he had but it wouldn't fit my bulbous head.

Me too, but mine started yesterday afternoon!

I took advantage of the day off to do a mid day ride instead of waiting till late afternoon. Smoke situation has been good since Tuesday, but that heat wave Big John's been talking about will affect us too, 400 miles away. Not as severely, but still, no knowing how hot Sunday will be. And if it may also mean the return of the smoke.

So I went out on the Canyon and got a bunch more PRs on the same roads AGAIN! Blue bike > Red bike.

Mind you, the red bike is 4# heavier than the blue, so, there's that.

I am trying to expand your musical taste. This might be one you like. It has a gorgeous use of Fluglehorn/Trumpet.
