Make the most of it. I was fortunate enough to be able to take nearly two years off from the working world in my mid-30s. (No. I didn't get one dime in government benefits.) During that time I took three long bike tours, including one cross-country and more and one in Andalucía. When I wasn't travelling I pursued other interests. I just turned 51. I was hoping to be able to retire at 55, but health insurance would be a big issue, so I will probably stay until 60. It will still be an issue then, but not as big a one.

Enjoy!

I've been through a similar thought process. I wanted to retire at 50 but had kids to get through college still. I wanted to retire at 60 but it was too early to withdraw from SS, and my pension could use a few more years of contributions. Now I hope to retire at age 65 but its attractive to keep the money flowing in so I can finish up a few more big projects (remodel kitchen, build out the backyard patio for parties, retire all long term debt, get set up with newer cars, OMG the list keeps getting longer...)
