This is a great thread. It would be even better if there was one post that someone could update with an index and links. I'll post and ask the admins if there is a way to insert a reply at the beginning of this thread, otherwise it would be buried and hard to find.

Had not known previously of the Joselyn's in Monterey.
One thing I learned in recent decades regarding this name is that there are at least three different spellings. Was the name of the Monterey shop spelt the same as the Menlo Park shop?
Sugden & Lynch -
went on one visit in the early '80's because a friend tipped me that they had Campag Record rear mechs for US 10.80 each. bought three and put them away in their handsome dark blue cartons.
IIRC the story within the trade at that time was that although they had been discontinued Teddy Carnielli wanted to use them on a particular model. evidently he and Tullio were old friends from their racing days and he was able to persuade T. to put them back into production.
whilst there, spoke with the Caledonians regarding my search for Gnutti replacement cones. in the Caledonian version of English Gnutti comes out sounding like "GA-nutti."
local frame maker Ed Litton purchased his Pogliaghi there in about 1969.

A lot of my friends when I was in college (SFSU) had grown up on the peninsula and used to talk about all the old shops there, including Sugden and Lynch. As I said, I think I stumbled in there once probably towards the end.
Do you know Ed Litton? I remember him coming into one shop I used to work at to pick up frames. Nice guy. (I'm sure he doesn't remember me - just one of the mechs in the back...)

I worked at Fishers Cyclery 1994 - 1996 when Scott Hyer was the manager. Great shop, and the only place I’ve ever seen a Fishlips Cycles frame in person. I don’t remember what model it was but it was titanium. At the time we sold Gary Fisher, GT, Shasta and Schwinn, with some Davidson frames hanging on the wall. In the basement was a GT Xizang frame we called the “half-bike” because the rear triangle was Cromo bolted to a front triangle of titanium. On the wall going downstairs was a Suntour freewheel display that was fully stocked with cogs, spacers, and bodies for all the different styles that had gone obsolete. I raided that wall for a gear to put on my quad chainring adapter for the Nishiki Alien I was riding at the time. Jay Smith was the head mechanic at the time, and I lusted over his 1st generation GT LTS-1. Good times. Fishers is still there but all those characters are long gone...

I got a '84 Trek 400 a couple of weeks ago from the original owner - no shop sticker and I failed to ask where he bought it, but his '85 NC State campus bike registration sticker remains.

Does anyone know anything about old bike shops in Tokyo? This is on my 1982 Bridgestone Eurasia. I looked up the address on Google, but the shop no longer exists.

Here are a few from the shop I worked at in the '70s/80s. The first two are on the same bike. Apparently I bought this bike (1988 Rockhopper Comp) around the transition and put them both on. Excuse the mess, this bike has only recently been pulled down off the hangers and is now awaiting TLC and a few mods to make it more older guy user friendly.
The older version:
The shape of the later sticker worked better on chainstays but made it hard to see the phone number!
I also came across a third version, these were never attached to anything, I may put one of them on my newish China built "Schwinn" cruiser.
I think that location is a pet shop now? The bike business was purchased and moved. It became "Tonka Cycle and Ski" and the funny thing (to me) is, they moved to a location a couple doors down from where the first Schwinn shop I worked at used to be. So, Tonka Cycle now uses the same parking lot as Hopkins Schwinn used to, right at the Hopkins/Minnetonka border. (Hopkins Schwinn burned down one night decades ago, long before Tonka Cycle moved).
With all that's going on now and thoughts of retirement building, I've been missing my bike shop days lately...

Found an old Raleigh dumped at a cul-de-sac and brought it home to give to the co-op. Sticker from The Bicycle Tree in Sunnyvale CA. Gotta love that phone number it says to dial: PEU-GEOT, and evidently an April '81 assembly or sale date. Never seen either on a sticker.

Here's one from a Motobecane Nomade I 10sp that I'm fixing up to sell for a non-profit.
For many years, this was t-h-e shop for all toys (including bikes) before god invented Toys-R-Us. A niece bought her hubby a Raleigh Wyoming there in about 1986.
An iteration of the shop still exists on US 130 just up the road from the old one.
