That is some scary stuff.

Dominion:
You can pick up fixed gear bits at Bikes On Wheels or Urbane Cycle. Urbane will have a larger selection. They definitely have some cheap stuff (they even have a basket of stamped brown steel 17T cogs for like $4 each) but if I were you I wouldn't skimp on one of the most important parts of your drivetrain. Get a decent CNC'ed cog and be happy with it!

You can get a forumula cog and lockring for about 8 bucks. Doesn't get much cheaper than that.

You could get one at the bike joint, or pretty much any other shop in town can at the very least order them if they don't have them. The cogs are OK and the lockrings are kinda crappy, but they're 8 bucks. They'll definitely last longer than 2 happy meals.

Haven't checked the thread in a while -- hope everyone is well + enjoying the awesome weather!

I just heard about this event & the associated private member's bill -- did anyone attend?

https://www.raisethehammer.org/wots/5...fe_passing_law

On Tuesday, May 18 the Share the Road Cycling Coalition in partnership with cyclists and cycling advocates from the Toronto Cyclists' Union will join NDP Transit critic Cheri DiNovo as she introduces a private members bill requiring vehicle drivers to give 3' or one meter of clearance when passing cyclists.

So-called "3 foot laws" have been passed in 17 U.S. states as a means of educating motorists and making cycling safer in both urban and rural settings. The Bill represents an amendment to the Highway Traffic Act and would require motorists to provide at least 3' or one meter of space to cyclists when passing, and at least 5 feet space when traveling more than 50 km/hr.

While tidying up somewhat, I came across some parts someone might find useful. I have a Thomson Elite stem, black, 5deg rise x 90mm, 25.4 clamp, and a set of Profile Design flat carbon bars to go with it. Also, I have a Flite Ti seat. If anyone can put these to good use, they're yours.

edit: Spoken for by TJ

It was a tragic situation, but if what the Peck said to the court is true, and I have no doubt it is, it would be impossible to get a conviction.

Sure, but based on what?
A trial should be had, regardless of the outcome. What kind of justice system doesn't at least assess the evidence regardless of the Special Prosecutor's opinion?
I'm willing to bet that the defence probably found a way to bar the footage (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFISP...eature=related) as evidence.
The guy hit a man, on purpose, with his car. A man who was not threatening him at this point. Some kind of charge has to stick on that, it must. Otherwise, it means that drivers can hit me on purpose and drive away.

I thought an individual's past was not admissible. Regardless, even in tossing out the big charges, hit-and-run, and failure to remain should be at least slapped on him. This could open Toronto to some big payouts in terms of civil suit no? The police interviewed Sheppard before he got on his bike. Failure to notice someone twice over the limit ..... had the police stopped him ... none of this would have happened. Multiple baby mommas and his family can sue I believe.

a criminal trial is based on 'beyond a reasonable doubt'. Nowe, we had a whole class in criminal law on what this means, but basically 99.9% sure. It's the crown's job to determine what cases have a chance at meeting that standard and what do not. What do you base that on? In this case, I'd suspect that they looked at his blood alcohol level, the number of people who have been assulted in cars by this gentleman, and the forensic evidence (which appears to be quiet different from what the initial reports were).

The defence wouldn't have had anything to do with the footage. At some point they could have raised it, but not at this point. I read a few articles about what was said in court today, the Toronto Star's was much more detailed, and showed it was the right decision (from a legal point of view, moral arguments aside).

I'm not suggesting that dropping the charges is the 'right' thing to do in any sense other than the obligations that the Crown has in prosecuting cases.

I'm not into criminal law, but from what I remember Bryant's history could not be used against him, and in cases of **** the history of the 'injured' can't. But in most cases I think you could blame the victim.

There will certainly be a civil suit in this matter. As for against the cops, it wouldn't surprise me.

I think Dukes had B+W hard cases similar to those at the bike show...although you can probably find a better price elsewhere.

I packed my carbon bike up in this box when I flew to MTL in April. Worked well, cheap and disposable if your riding back.

Anyone know of some good deals to be had on tires? I need a new set, 700's 23-25mm. Current tires are Rubino. I have a nasty cut cut across the back tire that's just waaaaaaiting to bust open completely. Thank-you, that is all, please continue.

A cyclist, later identified as Mr. Sheppard, was angered apparently by the
motorist's actions in honking his horn at Mr. Sheppard who was in the centre of a
driving lane.
Legal experts agree, but Mr. Peck's casual use of the phrase "driving lane" in this context says something about the mentality at work here. Is there anything in the HTA about "driving" lanes?

Urbane is doing something weird with their tire wall, everything is in boxes. Though the coloured Rubinos, no pairs, I can pair up colours but one 23mm and one 25mm. Don;t even even two black ones. *sigh*
The reviews of the conti Ultraskins at MEC for are scaring me right off the option. hmm i guess maybe a couple more shops to look at.

Just called Mitch @ his new digs @ Liberty, I'll go get my Rubinos there I tink.
