Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It reminds me of the big foofooraw about Coors Beer in the East back in the 70s. It wasn't any better than Schlitz or Schmidts or Genesee or any of the beers back east, but it got a cultlike following for a while.

Krispy Kreme donuts are pretty good, or at least I find them to be better than the average donut shop donuts, but I try to avoid donuts these days anyway. They don't really merit all the excitement.

Went for a ride this morning and it was COLD!! 45 at the house when I rolled out, but got down to 39 along the creek (that's 7 and 4, for you Celsius types). I was wishing I'd worn more, but then I hit the climb after and wished I'd worn less.

Then the descent after the climb I wished I'd worn more....

I did an hour plus on Zwift on Wednesday, and it wasn't so bad. But even with the chilly air, riding outside was just SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!

I don't think I've ever been in a Krispy Kreme store. I've had the donuts, but somebody else has picked them up.

I avoid donuts, too. I'm a hard core sugar addict so I can chunk up quickly.

I remember the Coors business. There was a big thing about the president having it in the White House, I think, but I don't remember which president.

I'm a donut fiend. The KK standby, the raised & glazed donuts, have a special place, 'specially when still warm, but I wouldn't go very far out of my way for them.

This reminds me that I need to visit a particular donut shop that I haven't been to in more than a year. They make good donuts but have really endeared themselves to me by using a handful of donut holes as packing peanuts in your box of goodies.

On a days when I've got a good calorie budget to play with, I'll indulge, but if push comes to shove, I'll take two beers over one donut, no question.

My will power is like a light switch - I can either not eat something AT ALL, or eat too much of it. That's why I practice all my will power in shopping rather than at home. If there are donuts in the house, I can't NOT eat my share. I envy people who can eat A donut.

Ford, apparently. That's what The Internet told me, anyway.

For the F1 fans - Lewis Hamilton seems like a pretty cool guy, but this is sillier than Specialized and their team of Lawyers - https://thesportsrush.com/f1-news-le...y-watchmakers/

TL;DR - Lewis Hamilton's lawyers tried to sue Hamilton, a 100+ year old watchmaker, over the trademarking of their company name.

Perusing CL and I have a question for the vintage BMX fans: is this bike really worth enough that they can just slap it online in this condition and reasonably expect something around the $1k asking price?

It depends if you pay $1k for it or not.

I wouldn't pay a penny over 750 without a stem and "peddles."

Years ago, I saw a listing on Ebay, for a Hamilton wristwatch for $3000. There was only one picture, taken from so far away you could barely see the watch, and blurry. It seemed so odd, I checked out the seller's sold auctions. That very watch had sold repeatedly for $3000. I figure it was a money laundering scheme. I wonder if this is similar?

Whoa--difficult buyer. You'd probably fuss about the front tyre, too.

Way back in May, I got a bee in my bonnet to buy a late 90s/early 2000s Litespeed Ultimate frame - or whole bike - and build it up. I hadn't decided on a groupset. I scoured Ebay and Craigslist, and found one that would have been perfect, but I dawdled and it sold. So I started looking at more modern bikes and settled on a Canyon Endurace, which I got and have thoroughly enjoyed.

But I keep looking every so often, and there's an Ultimate in my size that's been on the local Craigs List for at least 3 weeks. I feel like I'm being taunted.
