Fortunately nobody felt the need to bash whoever brought it back up. I don’t know why people get as upset over old threads coming to the top as they do. Had someone made a new post inquiring about this, someone would have linked to this one stating how it has already been discussed. And I enjoy going back through threads posted before I found BF to see how opinions and attitudes may have held up or changed.

Years ago, my NYC marathon training partner and I started cross training with cycling. She fell in love with cycling and was a natural at it; I still remember one of our early rides, spinning at 18mph and turning around to see her tucked neatly in my draft, a huge smile on her face.

After the marathon, she continued to run and bike, eventually qualifying and competing as part of Team USA in the duathlon World Championships in Spain.

​​​​​​She bought me back a Specialized Team USA helmet. I wore it with pride.

I've got two state championship jerseys from 1987 and 1988 and i couldn't begin to wear them even if i wanted to. That was 50# ago.

Big John needs to create a ‘how to’ video.

Now, would a senior look super stupid, or just stupid wearing a team jersey who has a max cruising speed to 10 MPH? Does it still not matter? Do our principals of not caring still stick? Or is there a line?

Full disclosure: If I saw someone in full racing kit doing 10-12 MPH for an extended period, my thoughts would not be less than charitable. So that makes me a hypocrite.

I feel like a poseur if I wear a professional team jersey. That said, before shipping costs skyrocketed, I used to pick up obscure amateur team jerseys dirt cheap from Europe.

when you are fat like me you kind of need to wear button up or is that button down I can never rememember full cut shirts so I don't have to worry about what I would look like in a team jersey as it just is not going to happen.....

Every so often, usually at the end the season, one can pick up shirts made from the same or similar material on sale - never the sausage casings. That’s when I buy them, but never with any logos etc; I’m not interested in advertising for them.

I do find it amusing when I see some individuals dressed in their plastics as if ready to take off like a ballistic missile, and I pass them. And I’m by no means a fast bicyclist. For a good number of these people, I think that it is about a state of mind, not so much that they have an objective advantage… but that’s just my guess. 😉

I have several quick dry tees that I sometimes wear to ride in. They don’t have pockets so I have to put my stuff in a bag.

True, no pockets but I normally use pockets of my shorts. Other small items (including a spare tube and a few tools) go in the small bag under the seat… I mean, the saddle. 😉

Upon recommendation of a former racer, now bike shop owner; I checked out a kit manufacturer based in the US which is a husband and wife operation whom sell a full range of cycling gear at very affordable prices. No team gear - which is just fine, but they get good reviews. Because the prices were so good I ordered a jersey and shorts just to check them out. Very interesting patterns. Made in the USA Kit

I like the NeoPro stuff, and have a few of their kits. IMO it hits above the price-point. However, NeoPro is an Australian-based company (from the About page..."Our kits are designed and tested in our home Brisbane, Australia and ridden all over the world!"). I'm pretty sure manufacturing is in SE Asia. That said, for US customers, they have a US warehouse, and shipping is pretty quick.

Another brand I really like is Pactimo (https://www.pactimo.com/). They are Colorado-based, and have a fit range from racer-boy aero to loose and casual. I've been pretty impressed with the pieces I've bought. Sales are frequent, and signing up for their email promotions gets you access to deeper discount offers.

Wow, good to know. My bad. Yeah the comment about hitting above the common price point caught my attention. When a Rapha or high end jersey costs over $120, I look elsewhere. Thanks for the tip on Pactimo.

My jerseys do not have any team or corporate logos on them. I still feel like I look goofy in them. But the rear pockets and longer tails do make them practical.
