This is awesome! It reminds me of what we used to do in the 1990s: upgrade cheaply-bought 1960s Mercedes-Benz 190s with drivetrains and interiors from 1970s (or even 1980s) donors. The results varied between lame and amazing: some people kept it real, right down to the 13" wheels, bias tires, and drum brakes; others went all the way, with disk brakes all around, either later-model OEM or 1980s AMG wheels, De Dion rear suspensions to replace the swing axles, shoehorned W123 dashboards, with W116/W126 drivetrains.

[QUOTE=sjanzeir;18775149]This is awesome! It reminds me of what we used to do in the 1990s: upgrade cheaply
Thank you , it was not something I pieced together but rather purchased and put together on my own . I do like the look of it though. My 1st car was a 90's BMW , I def kept that car real. All my future vehicles got some tasteful upgrades. I think the old Mercedes & Bmws look best when original , the only upgrades I think match them well are the AMG or M Package extras and parts that cant be seen.

I didn't mean to imply that your work was tag tag and cheap; I was merely saying that the way the bike looks reminded me of the monsters we used to Frankenstein together and beat the **** out of newer cars. Either way, your bike looks great.

I love the HKS. Where did you find it? I've been looking for one for years.

Late 60's Typhoon. Sold it and sorta wish I still had it. I'm working on a Sears Spaceliner. Should be close to finished next week.

I'm not familiar with either of them. You may want to try posting over in ratrodbikes.com if you don't get any help here. Awesome find by the way.

This is my train station bike. I have about a mile and a half commute to the train station and use this bike for that commute year round. I have been using it this way since 1992 when I got my first job out of college. I oil the chain a couple times a year and repack the hubs every couple of years.

I't take your Simbi over a Townie (or any Electra Townie-like, crank-forward cruiser) any day, given the control issues I had experienced with my old Trek pure. dezzie's Electra does look awesome, though.

My story isn't that different: the Pure was my first real bike in 20 years (there was a brief encounter with a Toys"R"Us-bought Kent Ridge Runner around 2007, which I barely ever had the time to ride, so I ended up giving it away, so it really doesn't count.) So before the Pure, I haven't done any significant riding in at least 16 years, during which I had turned into an overweight, chain-smoking, cubicle-bound, 34-30-wearing, computer-hogging couch potato - obviously not an ideal outcome for a medal-winning college athlete who commuted on a road bike and cover as much as much as 80 kilometers a day in and around my hometown at the time. Having bought the Pure pretty much on a whim last August, after my freelancing work afforded me much more free time to ride (and with a little egging-on from my brother in law to work my way back into the sport,) and after having lost control and almost fallen over quite a few times, I realized later that it probably wasn't an ideal fit for someone who's practically become a beginner all over again. A lot has changed in 20 years! Now I'm having a much, much better time on my Verve, which is somewhat similar to your Simbi.
