Time for that drop bar conversion I've been thinking about. Rode 20 miles yesterday with some friends and the upright position was killing me, even on a mostly flat packed surface. Nice day, though.

Decals
Spent the past few days searching for decals for an 85 that I'm having blasted and sprayed. Found some in black on Ebay, but that's just not going to work. Anyone seen any in the original gold color?

Here is the sellers photo of the 85 that I just bought. Sanded down some pretty gnarly rust and luckily it's looking real straight now(I was worried about the frame, but components alone are worth the $60 paid). Frame goes in for blasting and powder coat this week. I'll follow up once it's back from the shop.
Here is the color!

I did not know there was a three-wheeled LePree deraileur. I have a normal one. Good gear -- do you think it's original to the bike? I notice you have a Deer Head FD...

Everything's original aside from the LePree and handlebar. Should've had a matching deer head RD and Nitto bar with more rise. These bars are Sakae MT. I've read that the 3x LePree RD only came with certain Nishikis.

Soooo...Upon further inspection, I found that the previous owner swapped the freewheel out for a Sachs 14-32, 7 speed freewheel. I'm not mad about it. Frame should be back from powder coat mon-tues. Got some scrubbing to do in the meantime. Will update when I get back from the paint shop.

All finished! Decided to run it 1x7. Teeth on the chainrings were in real bad shape. Also, the sachs fw wouldn't hold on to the chain, so I swapped to a sunrace for now. Love riding this thing and I plan on commuting with it.

Love the color! It's a bit darker than I expected, but I still haven't had it out in abundant sunshine. Also, I was so excited to get it assembled and on the road that I didn't take the time to polish and slap some wax on it.

Seems the Cimarron was born too early...
They never quite struck the right chord with the market back in the 80s, for which we (today) should be most grateful... they are SO WELL SUITED for today... I have had the good luck & fortune of owning several, and have ridden them in various configurations... These make awesome all-rounders.

On my end, my cimarron now has its replacement seat stays on! Will post pics in a bit. I am spending a lot of my idle time thinking about what color to paint it, and if I should spray.bike it or pay a professional.
