Vintage 10 speed bicycle

$3,000
Listed a week ago in Abilene, TX
Message
  • Condition
    Used – good
  • Brand
    Reileigh Carlton of England
This bike is approximately 50+ years old and everything is in working order. It has tour de France stickers on it but I'm not 100% sure I that it was used in the race or not if it could be proven then this vintage bike is priceless

It definitely was used on Le Tour.

Just the camera angle, or is this fork ugly?

Not ugly, just a mismatch with the bike. What's ugly is what looks like a bent down tube/head tube junction, explaining why the fork was replaced.

Hmm, I can't see the bend, but of course you're right about the mismatch; Just thought it was funny that someone was okay putting that black fork on that white Peugeot.

Apparently a fair price for these? I think I would take a whole Grail bike, rather than just a crank, for that price.

If the crank set includes the BB it may well be worth the asking price. They are highly prized in the BMX world. Smiles, MH

I read about that when I looked up what the heck this crank was "Harry Leary Turbo crank arms require a Sugino 400 spindle and bottom bracket, it's the only one that will work with those cranks." https://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=7297626 seems like you need hen's teeth to go with your hen's teeth"

It's my experience that mixte and similar frames are more often bent from being hit from behind than from running into something at speed.
Nevertheless, a changed fork is *always* a reason to check, in person, with a fingertip.

Might have a hard time finding a rear rim for the orange (started out red) one? Rear O.L.D. looks to be about 40mm - can't seem to find a rim that small size on Sheldon's chart?

Curious how it got that way?

Not a Dawes "Galaxy" or a CCM "Galaxy" but a "Galaxy Par Exellence" - Mitchell's Bike Blog: Red Galaxy- Par Excellence

what this bike would look like without the "modifications" - slightly wider rear spread.
