I live in south italy , the city is very small (11-12.000k residents). My house is almost into the countryside. During the 2017 there was a lots of burglary actions.
I love my bikes and i'm very obset (i spent more into bikes than into car stuff gasoline apart).
My most precious bike is near 2meter from my bed , and the others are in a room on my grandmother's house.
The only bikes actually are outside are my sister's one (actually i'am repairing it) , my fixie but and a frame is a very bad shape waiting for a restoration.
Even if they are outide i have a small spot were i can leave them and hide from everything , dust and hopefully thieves too.
Did i appear as an order-maniac?

I live on the second floor of a two story apt building. I've had stuff stolen from my 1st floor garage including my bike so now it stays in my living room. I don't lock my bike up and admit that living on the 2nd floor with a private stairway may give me a false sense of security but as someone said if people are entering my living space I've got bigger issues than a bike.

no apartment here but for what its worth i lock my bike up inside my detatch garage to a wall stud after having someone kick in the door in the middle of the night and steal a bike. I've since reinforced the door jam and added a deadbolt.

Lucille... why "YES" I have locked my bikes inside of apartment.
Sometime when going away for a couple of days I will lock 2 bikes together, knowing it would be extremely hard to get two bikes out the door.

[QUOTE=Skipjacks;20168838]Do you mean did I keep it inside in my apartment behind the locked door?
Yes. Always.
Did I locked it up in the hallway? Never even left it in the hallway.
Outside?
Yep. Me also when I was ling in apartments 34+ years ago...

Same here, but the last time I lived in an apartment was 34+ years ago! And for the record, also when in my college dorm - that forbid bikes in rooms 40+ years ago!

I hate to carry keys, so I only carry those I need; when I'm out without my bicycle, I don't carry its lock's key, which means that I could leave on my bike the next day but have forgotten the key - grrrr!!! - locking it up guarantees that I remember the key.

I live on the fifth floor and I leave my bicycle outside the hallway locked on to the stairway railing. I like to believe no one would bother to try and steal it.

I always take my bikes inside. However I don't leave them where they can be seen from windows or door area. They have their own closet and the closet is closed.

When I was an apartment dweller, I kept my bike inside and always locked the door when I wasn't there.
Same as being a house dweller.

if you have roommates, then you do not have 100% control of security of your stuff..
But cost of Opportunities, big cities offer, has trade offs..
Dead bolt lock steel doors, in steel doorjams ? Or Wood?
you do keep renter's insurance, Right?

How come no-one has mentioned homemade burglar alarms and death traps?
Alarms that trigger military mace sprayers. Shotun shells in specially rigged seat posts,
Keeping your bike in a closet with a zombie. Nothing is too outrageous when dealing with bike thievery.
