I live within a mile of the crash site. I have lost a wonderful "friend I never met" -- I think I would have liked him. The San Diego cycling community is keeping up pressure on the DA to press charges for what I suspect was a DUI. (Flee, sleep it off, then "bravely" turn yourself in sober -- happens all the time. This is why hit & run should be prosecuted as a presumed DUI.)

I did go to the service last Thursday, the temple was so packed they had to set up chairs outside. Some guys rode there and came in wearing bike kits. I think it was the Rabbi who joked that bike kits should have been mandatory. Somehow Jim's fiancee summoned the courage to stand up there and speak to us.
Our club is having a memorial ride this Sunday which will be led by his fiancee, who is a RAAM verteran and exceptional rider herself.
The ride will have a coffee stop where Jim's parents will be waiting for us.

Thanks again for the kind words, everyone. It means a lot.

I'm sure you would have, John. Like I said, he had the ability to make people feel like they were special. I mentioned this to his sister and she said he got it from his grandfather.

The picture and all of the words did it for me. It is easy to see how much he was loved and how much he is missed. I am so, so sorry. My condolences to all...

Big John,
I am so sorry to be late to reply, He seems like a rare person. I'll have his fiancee and his parents in my prayers. You be strong and take care.

Respectfully,
Bill

That's sad news. The ride on Sunday will be a wonderful tribute to him that will make his family feel a little less pain knowing how much he was liked.

I'm sorry to say that I've been in your shoes, twice before, both times due to DUI drivers...first my best friend and then our children's wonderful baby sitter, she was a HS senior.

I am sorry for the loss of your friend, for the pain that you, his friends, and his family will feel so deeply for quite some time. For me I spent a year of two wondering why....why him....what my wife would do had it been me...why did the legal system fail to punish these DUI drivers....

again, sorry for your loss
