returning to the original Mafac Racer brakes would have been a problem- with 700c the pads are all the way up in front.
the Ambrosios were at hand, not correct, but 700c and allowed using the same spokes - the spokes are the correct length now- filling the nipples fully. They are not correct and short, need Robergel-
maybe one day. Super Champ Gentlman rims in 700c? Not holding my breath. Clincher tires are decent enough now, will stick with them.
paint is original- replicating the pin striping at some point will be a problem. Paint polished up reasonably well, I taped off to either side of the stripes to not buff them away.
the seat tube sticker suffers from some ignorant shop mechanic clamping it in a Park work stand no doubt. Replacements are close but not correct enough. At some point I will create suitable vector art.
a few smaller details- the rear brake cable stop is not a Mafac. I have looked for a TA unit, not found yet at an acceptable price. I have a 3ttt stem, need Grand Prix bars.

this one is… words are an issue often, more nimble and maybe sporty than my older CdM.
I have not test ridden a Upper tier Gitane.
I did consider a 1975 PX as a training bike later in the season that year. That bike was different, not bad, but different than my 1972 CdM.
I purchased this later one before the pandemic.

There are two bicycles now somewhere in the wild I'm hoping to see here at some point. Someone purchased a white NOS Grand Record frame from US eBay seller and that will build into a gorgeous ride. The price was a bit steep, especially with shipping to the UK, but still very tempting. And a few months back (late Summer) someone got a black C5 with Simplex derailleurs from a French eBay seller (whoever did this, I'm very cross with you right now, I was going to buy that one 
). So I'm hoping both buyers are on this forum and share some photos. Come on, you can't be snatching bicycles from under my nose and not even show how lovely they look!

wheel set ( 27'' large flange ) is just so i can see how it rides .
Have plans to rejuvenate some mavic/normandy tubular rim wheels I have in the cave later .
Oddly the OLN is 120 /98 ? considering the decal sets make it an 1982 ?
I had expected 126mm by then .
Things are different in NZ I guess ?

That's a lovely build! I've got a '69 PX10 I picked up as a basket case I plan to do a similar sort of 'urban commuter' build with. What gearing are you running there? The Jubilee RD handles the large cog?

Yes ,rear is right on the limit .
Will be interesting to see how the mavic/normandy tub wheels fit .
The set I have are 126 so will need respacing / redishing etc .
Helicomatic rear (quelle horreur) which is correct to original
I got hold of a 1983 NZ (82 overseas ? ) Peugeot build sheet that also shows Weinmann 605 fitted rather than the currently installed Modolo Speedy.
Could always change them if need be .

With a longer pivot bolt - moving the caliper to inside the rear triangle will buy you some capacity. A bushing would be required.
or, 605’s that did have a longer reach.
I do not think sliding the wheel forward will improve the reach that much, might help some.

Yes. It was in very good shape when we got it. All it really needed were new tires and a saddle. I did a complete service anyway and changed the derailleurs to someshing a bit better than the original. I also swapped out the original sew up rims for clinchers though there was nothing wrong with the original rims. The clinchers are just more practical.
My only regret is that the yellow bar tape I tried to instal broke while I was wrapping it and we put blue bar tape on it instead. I think the yellow was much better.

The Jubilee short cage only handles up to a 24~26T large cog. I've adjusted the inside limit to not go to the largest cog while I source a different freewheel.

This Gitane Super Olympic passed through the basement last summer. Circa 1975, did not originally came equipped as such, but nice mix. Love those erector set dropouts!
