gotta admin...waking up this morning wasn't as much fun on a rest/transfer day. always better when you can follow the stage finish/check results of that day's gt stage immed upon rising.

i forgot about our boy menchov. the only guy that can wipe out going uphill more than once. in other news...expecting stage four to kill some hopes. looks like a barnburner/spot of bother waiting to happen.

Late acknowledgement, I got a little snort of coffee in my nose when I read that.
My wife reminds me of Rasmussen's talent for doing that. In a time trial. While he was on her team. She no longer plays.
Zakarin has gamely tried to follow in Denis' footsteps (or clavicle prints?) for me a few times but he has not raised (lowered?) his game to his countryman's level.

rasmussen and the tt from hell. looked like his first time on a tt bike that day. unfortunate.
love zakarin. woulda picked him had he been riding. prob woulda been a 10-14 pointer. guy attacks, covers and doesn't seem to have really bad days. everybody crashes as some point.
yay battaglin and woods! now if polanc would wake up. maybe stage six.
in other news, i think tejay is riding the toc. and yes, i'll probably pick him since he'll be a 12-14 pointer. he's familiar with the event/roads.

Several observations:
- I change team names a lot. Which I just did in this year's fame, going back to X Merckx the Spot, a favorite from several years back. I'll try to remember to stick with that. Now where is my Alzheimer's medicine?
- Speaking of team names, slow (s)pokes is in there as regular as my Uncle Jim. There are a few clever names on other teams that have come and gone. Glancing through just now at Froome of the Loin and my all time favorite Singing Indurain.
- The Giro is not my thing, no matter how badly I want it to be. It is a glorious grand tour, but I am not pretty in pink. I came close here though, 1st loser in a reduced field. All hail slow (s)pokes. Admire the glory.
- My Tour luck is not as bad as our host's. 2016 podium and 2014 brass ring. But DAMN did I have to scroll pretty far down some pretty long lists in a few years to find where I ended up in the league. Velogames really is a fickle mistress.
- dstrong's game has been strong the last few years. It's a good thing he doesn't wake up until July. Let's hope he doesn't have a team and he's not just out there, racking up points, waiting to swoop in and join the league. Or maybe, if a leader emerges here and starts talking too much smack, let's change that and hope dstrong IS out there doing that.
- Sad I missed la Vuelta last year. It would have been good to double down on my most recent league domination. 2016 was a solid year. 2017 I could have done without. In so many ways.
- 2018 is going to be a GREAT year.

and stage six starts the fireworks. i can see aru (been berry berry quiet) or lopez (been berry berry unlucky) winning. lopez has gotta go on the offensive to break/shake the bad funk off. perhaps atapuma,
ll sanchez and roche go early to provide cover for their guy and roche goes to protect the maglia rosa and to make the other teams chase.

I had a brief moment of life today when Ulissi put in a dig in the closing ~k. Then it snuffed out quickly when he pulled the plug. My cynicism is merely the smoke that rises from the ashes of those myriad burned out dreams.
Gotta hand it to Schachtman (sp?) and Poz for the claw back today.

I went in to check the league to see how poorly I am doing. Shock! It's not that I am doing worse than the slow (s)pokes, it is that they are missing! WTF??
This could be a bit of a shoot out between 3 of the current top 4 teams. Lets see whose GC folks deliver, and whose shots in the dark wind up hitting something. Still early days. Tomorrow should continue to spice it all up.

stage 8 not hard enuff to make a "selection' but hard enuff where a few gc wannabe contenders like formolo, meintjes and brambilla
could claw back a half a minute or so in attempts to get back into the game. lopez is still too close at just over 2 mins out to be given
enough of a leash to escape.

they're going slow. waiting on brambilla, polanc and lopez to realize the race started a week ago.
originally picked all three to be difference makers in the third week but throwing out a few bones
before that wouldn't exactly break the bank, would it?

picking one of the michelton-scott boys, nieve or chaves, to win stage 8. m-s came to play and realize that they've
got to get some significant distance/time over the dumou/froomedog tandem pre tt. astana had/has the strongest team on paper
but seem neutered so far. second guess would be a uae rider such as atapuma or polanc.

I think Froome will try something, and Astana will be following him until they think they can pull out a counter. I'm hoping MAL will take the stage, but I don't really believe it. Maybe Pozzivivo can deliver.
