Bikes: Some bikes. Hell, they're all the same, ain't they?
Frankly, if it were a guy, or myself, starting a thread asking the exact same question, there would be a lot more "HTFU" responses. Yeah, there would still be the encouraging posts (and I probably would've told a guy the same thing as I did earlier -- "Too many numbers. Pick a destination, not a distance."), but it would definitely be harsher than the thread is now.
And, OP, like it or not, coddling is what you're getting here. Don't let this rare occurrence color your perception of BikeForums, especially the Road section. We usually yell at each other.

I am NOT asking for coddling, sympathy or moral support...just a way to get around my mental block thank you very much...as evidenced here it is obviously that many people go through it. Sometimes we just need to know we are not alone...If you don't like it go to another thread already...I get enough jerks in cars when I am out on my bike...don't really need one here.

At least here we're trying to not become hoverchair-bound like the humans in Wall-E.

To return to your original question, it sounds like you're making work out of your rides and the focus needs to be on fun. If you don't quite ride enough, you'll be going nuts wanting to ride more. Ride too much, and the fun goes away. I'd recommend dropping your mileage and/or frequency a bit and see if that helps. If you are compulsively competitive, ride with others, drop them, and that will make you feel better. If they drop you instead, you'll feel better as you make them work harder and harder to accomplish their objectives.
All you guys whining about the easy treatment need to HTFU. The reality is that we easy on people unless they are jackasses or Freds. Since well over 90% of the BF membership falls into at least one of those two categories and a huge percentage falls into both, it's easy to get the mistaken impression that someone's unfairly getting an easy time.

You just might be a jerk!
To the OP:
Well hello there Jennifer. I can truly relate to your situation. At one time I too was wondering if this was indeed the sport for a 6 foot 2 inch 180 pound blue eyed male stripper. A friend recommended that I get a new seat with the center cut out. This changed the fit entirely and the rest is history. Los Angeles is a short plane flight to anywhere. If you like I can come by for a couple of months and pace you around. I would do this for any cyclist so don't think that you are being treated special.

Hoping to not get flamed here...but I need help...
I am really new to cycling...bought my first bike about 6 months ago...I think i pushed myself too much too fast, and now every time I get on my bike I almost dread it. I am typically a very logical person but when it comes to cycling my brain is acting very illogically...any suggestions with how I can enjoy it again? When I first started, I think I enjoyed it so something is obvisously different now.
My typical schedule is 1-2 long rides a week (around 40 miles) and 1-2 shorter rides (15-20 miles). I am a little on the slow side averaging 14-15MPH. I run the rest of the time (running I have found I enjoy ALOT) and end up working out 5-6 days a week.

A little bit over a year ago, I quit road cycling, left my road bike in my basement, and got back on my comfy upright 3-speed. Now I only cycle for transport around the city (purely recreational rides happen about once a month.) I still get in an *average* of 20 miles a day and on a 50+ lb bike that's a lot of exercise.
So the moral of the story is, even if you give up on road cycling, you can still have fun with other kinds of cycling.

Now:
There's no point to doing it if you don't enjoy it. Take a month off, do some other stuff. Circle the date you will get back on your bike, and mark off the days on your calendar. Let the hunger for riding again grow so that you can't wait for that circled day to arrive. If you get near the end and you aren't eagerly awaiting the day you can ride again, you may want to rethink cycling at all.
