Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That wasn't what I was asking, but it did answer my question. You must be already having a hard time understanding Yank accents...best git home!

Why don't we just keep them deleted, at least until 2006. Some of us took happy Christmas pledges.

Well to be honest Expatriate, with some of the stuff I have had to deal with from one of our "members" in the "Racism in cycling" thread, I haven't had too much fun either...and all I was trying to do was make a simple request. I appreciate the job you guys (and gals) do, and have to do. It just does seem that some of the members are constantly at odds with other members and just cannot get along with anyone. I guess even this forum mirrors life in the real world eh? You would think that, in a place where we all share such a wonderful common interest, that we could all at least learn to be civil towards each other.

Okay, okay...I am a naive dreamer

Y'all have to remember that we mods have a life outside of forums too
(my boss appreciates my not editing too many threads on company time).
will I edit them and reinstate the threads? I don't see why not.
Can the general membership self moderate? given what I've seen over the
past few days, despite repeated pleas for some sanity, I'd have to say no.
Therefore we are here, and more present than I can recall in my 2 or 3 years
of moderating here.
One thing, and I don't mean this to sound condescending, it may be
your thread but it is Joe's forum and we play by his rules.

Hey Marty I sure can't say I disagree with this viewpoint...I bet you never thought this job would include the title "cyber babysitter," huh?

Brian, I know the member you refer to, and we're aware of the issues. Yes, in theory we share a common interest, but some folks would rather just argue about things other than bikes. Hopefully they'll tire of it sooner rather than later.

That would be nice, but I (for one) won't hold my breath, since he did it again today .

Keep up the good work nonetheless. I don't envy you.

Has anyone noticed that every time Aussie posts the cheeseburger picture Marty yanks the thread. Coincidence?

Is it a picture of Marty? Or does Marty just hate cheeseburgers?

Maybe no, maybe so. Its the anonymity that frees people (myself included) to type things that they would never say to another's face. Anonymity in this case is not neccessarily a good thing. Nor is the ability to act without any real repurcussions.

I have met many local BF members for rides and can say that without exception they were all fine gentlemen. We had ten guys on a local ride for four hours and there was no name calling. You can't get 10 posts up in a row around here without a negative word.

I am a member of another online group that is all real-name, no aliases, nothing. Your personal info is all right out there. And you know what? It is the most civil forum I have ever been on.

Cheers to you too Brian. BTW, I see your screen name and always wanted to ask... Are you LE?

I hate it when mods complain about how tough their job is. If it's so bad, just quit.

If it's worth doing, then just STFU and do your job.

IMHO, this forum (read: Road Cycling) has been off the map of ragged for a while now. This past week has been especially lame.

Personally, I hope the moderators lay waste to anything that isn't pure road cycling specific. I mean go nuclear on the forum. If I wanted to get my fill of chest-thumping childishness, I'd go down to the local basketball courts.

Hell, the mods could flat out punk the RC forum, make it vanish, and I don't think I'd miss a thing right now. That's unfortunate, because there are some folks who chime in with a nugget or two from time to time, and I really dig their contributions.

Oh well. Not my Internet, I suppose.

Right. Or some people could learn to behave themselves in a civilized manner. None of us will quit, the pay is just too good.
