$100 for a few brazeons and single color paint?

Is this cracked?

This one seems more legit than the other posted just above.

Yep, the one I posted is the lower end model/maker (although I believe legit?) with the wrap around seat stays, but at $120 seemed worthy of sharing.

twolve Can you check the serial number under the bottom bracket shell? Mine's 75T005. Dunno if the "T" stands for "Turin" or "Touring." Might be interesting to see what light the seller can shed on that, and other, mysteries.

Jos van Veldhoven (v*v*velo on eBay) often has some interesting, obscure stuff. This Modolo adjustable stem/handlebar combo fits the bill as far as I'm concerned. I don't know what's in the water in Vazzola, but Modolo's designers were drinking a bunch of it.

Yes, I was reading about the serial numbers here on bf and am curious. I asked the seller about the SN but haven’t heard back yet. I’d like to figure out what it is exactly.

Just received, the SN is 74T015. So a Limited, made in 74? And it doesn’t have braze-ons for a rack, but don’t know what that would mean the T is for Turin or Touring

👍 Yes, 1974. I'm beginning to think the "T" must mean "Turin." Having two serial numbers with such low sequence numbers suggests to me the sequence number must be for a short run series So, there is an "L" sequence, which I assume had more in the sequence. If there was a "Touring" sequence, I'd expect random examples to have sequence numbers higher than "15". OTOH, a series produced just for Turin would likely have a pretty limited number of examples per year. (Would be nice to have another couple examples of these to increase my confidence.)

I don’t think those decals were used on licensed production frames. Those decals started with Merckx’ own factory in 1980 at which time licensing probably ceased.

To me it’s completely illegitimate until proved otherwise.

Been keeping this tab open on this gorgeous 1983 Specialized Expedition in the second-to-largest 65cm (CTC) size, which is what I'd buy. Condition and ready-to-ride-ness match the asking price, to me as a C&V member. The rest of the world will largely not care about this bike nor value it at $600 OBO + shipping, but for those of us that have ridden this era of Specialized touring and sport touring bikes, they are something special indeed. As if justification was ever needed for C&V/any bike enthusiast, we, well, still employ it. What is the "case" for me with two steel luminaries in the Woodrup and Di2-spec'd Trek 510, plus a new carbon Trek Checkpoint? It would be to experience it, and experience it as an original build, refraining from modernization. And then to just simply ride it on country roads.

Alas, may other tall riders see it and give it a home!

I’ve heard somewhere that nervex lugs were only found on touring models.

Wonder what this actually is. Would Trek even fully chrome a bike as a special order?

I don’t think that’s a touring bike. And I doubt Trek was doing custom stuff in the mid 80s.

Need an expert!

I saw this pop up and have been looking for one in my size for quite a while. This is a beautiful bike,.as you said, with no modernizations.

I'm no expert, but back when I was still commuting on my Trek 520, I encountered a guy on Chicago's Lakefront Trail who said he was also riding a 520, but he'd had his chromed.

Sorry for any confusion/bad info from this original post. Despite my continued learning I still "only know enough to get myself in trouble" My understanding was "Eddie Merckx" bikes were made by various makers, some better than others. Was not intending to imply this was an Belgian made Eddie Merckx, but one of the various "branded" bikes https://classicrendezvous.com/countr...x/eddy-merckx/ maybe that is not even true? The wraparound seat stay did not match most that I had seen, so I turned to BF for more info and found a few posts mentioning higher end models and lower end with wraparound seat stays. I was not knowledgeable enough to see the inconsistencies pointed out by bianchigirl & seagrade particularly that these decals would not have been used on this bike. Thanks for the clarifications, I will modify my OP to reflect corrections.
