If you could light up the whole bike in neon like something out of Tron that would be cooler.

I really like the glow ([URL=www.fossilfuel.com]these[URL]) produce, and it will be great if you can find a way to sell them cheaper. I think they're for if you wanna be really eyecatching whereas (these lights) are more of your everyday commuting neon cos the batteries last for days. Dunno which I prefer to be honest.

hi
dunno what happened there- no good at hyperlinks. I was saying I like how eyecatching the fossil fool ones are and would be interested if you can sell them cheaper. I think they are more for when you wanna show off than these ones https://www.surelight.com/content.php?categoryId=343 which have a much longer batter life and are probably better for the daily commute.

One more thing I should mention, those neon glow wires they show on sure light aren't as bright as they show in the photos. I've seen them working before (I'll admit with the lights on) and they really aren't that bright. Also while they are insulated there is a certain amount of discomfort to direct contact with the wires (The electronics shop was selling them as a novalty item that counld be used for inside computer cases, decorations, and costumes etc. with that warning).

I have had friends pulled over for using blue lights here in Everett so yes be careful. If you use red for other than a rear light they may do the same. Check with your local law enforcement folks to be on the safe side.

I've seen this before in the newspaper except it was the entire frame and rims that illuminated. Some college project.

Best neon is found in computer tubes they have short wires and small transformers a two 6 inch kit will run less than $20 and the output is good, check around for high output. For this setup the 12 volt requirment is 500ma, so a set of AA rechargables will power system for more than two hours (1800ma/H NiMH)

How durable are these neon tubes? It seems like a lot of money to spend on an item that could be broken by the sudden jolt of hitting a hole in the road... or by inadvertently hitting it with one's feet.

Well you do need to be careful with them, and only put them on for night rides. They are not a permanent thing, and take no more then 5-10min to install and no more then 3 min to uninstall, but you do have to be carefull with them. The only way the $20AU neons would break would be if they fell off your bike onto a hard surface of you had a fall. But they're a fun and extreemly safe way of riding at night.

I use varous batteries, AA come from years of old camera batteries which are still good, and some sub 'c' nicd's from some old remote controled cars ( the rc radios also donate AA's).

The best source of good light and rechargeable batteries are my old battery powered tools, these also make it easy to carry a spare and have 1hr charge capability.

Your use of dry cells is very good and at least lighter than a 5Ah lead acid
