Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Extra weight? It's about 90 grams of difference for Ultegra cranks between double and triple.

Just take a sip of two out of your water bottle before you leave and it's about the same thing.

Only if you take a corresponding nature break.

Have we forgotten that sometimes it's just fun to buy cool new stuff for your bike?

I'm still fairly convinced a 50-36 is the best all-around compromise....

90g x .0022 = .2lbs... I don't consider anything approaching a quarter pound to be "who cares" weight... that's a significant difference.

The last guy that showed up at our local ride with a triple was put out of his misery for all the noise he created. It was a shame too cause he seemed like a nice guy.

Yes recursive, but that was the first time in 6+ years of riding!
...and it was only because I was in a peloton of about 50 riders, with a tailwind and going slightly downhill!!

(P.S. The weather looks great for your race here Saturday. At this time my plan is to RIDE to the course from my house and hang out to watch and take a few pictures. An Endeavour jersey and what kind/color bike for you again********** I'll keep my eyes open to find you...12:40 schedule start, right?)

I'll probably have the only Kestrel bike. I'll probably have the only clear bar tape. If that's still not enough, look for the guy with the 50/34 compact crank.
