to each his own dude. I consider it a pretty nice bike...2 wheels, looks like it rolls and gets from point A to B...

protip: Give the Vice Grips a go if you can't get in there with the angle grinder

I own a Dremel.

And the entire FZ discography, BTW.

Are you a little fond of chiffon in a wrist array?

I suppose if you keep it greasy, the old Varsity saddles don't hurt so much.

Do you use Schwinn Approved Lube?

Want to try some 60's FZ esoterica?

I have some tourist bars but no brake levers. I ordered the Pyramid levers from Niagara Cycle and they should be here soon.

Nice catch!
I was watching that on ebay but couldn't justify the shipping charge. I would have paid a lot more than $34 though.

The seller was local, so I was able to avoid shipping. Still, I was surprised to get it.

That's a beautiful green '62. The paint on mine is pretty nice, although that checkerboard design on the seat tube is powdery and would come off in a stiff breeze. I'm going to give it a good (and careful) wash and then clearcoat the graphics to preserve them (I hope).

Hate to admit, but my plan is to get this bike in good riding condition, keeping it as original as possible, and then flip it. It's too small for me.

james,
how did you get the bottom bracket out of the bike?
Don't know if this is directed at me, but removing the bottom bracket is pretty simple. Take off the left side pedal, unscrew the bottom bracket nut (which has reverse threads so unscrews clockwise) and then pull the crank arm through, wiggling out the bearings as you go....

Edit -- the left side, (non drive side) pedal is also reverse thread....

Yeah, those one-piece cranks are excellent to work on, especially the Schwinn ones! But it's also where half the bike's weight is. OK, not half, but it's surprisingly heavy.

There's always the old 3 piece conversion...nothing says devotion like a 30 pound Varsity with a crank conversion.

I think 30 lbs. is optimistic, even with a crank conversion.
Your point is well taken though.
My '62 is not exactly a joy to ride!
The geometry feels really weird after riding more modern bikes.

3 triple crank on a varsity would be sweet.

Outstanding work! Looks like you polished everything. Darn, they had nice chrome on those bikes.
