Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Women's bib shorts

Forgive me if this has been discussed.

I haven't seen too many and I know this is a male dominated sport, so, not much of a profit to make more of a selection for women...but why *so* few? Any women or people who know some women with bib shorts have anything good/bad to say about them?

Thanks!

Frankly I think Bike shops in Santa Clara have poor selection in general. I visited about three stores. One or two didn't even cary bib shorts, another had a really bad selection.

Bikes: .

Santa Clara is kind of an industrial area, I think the los altos, palo alto, cupertino etc areas seem more bike shop rich.

that being said, I don't think I've seen much in the way of bib shorts in shops, a few, but I think they may not sell the way the generic nonbibs do. And take about 2x the room to stock.

Bikes: Giant OCR1(specialized carbon seatpost,Terry Fly sadle, Syntace C2): Leader TT frame, Easton EC70fork, Aerolite bars, nashbar bullhorn, Titan Wheels: Fuji Track Pro(2003)

Performance in Campbell carry a lot of their own brand bibs, Supergo in Mountain View carry a good selection also.

I have not seen many mentions of bibshorts by women either...wonder if the straps would cause discomfort. Maybe it is because no women wear them?

I went to the Performance site, under lycra shorts, 28 out of 59 mens shorts were bibs...out of the 34 womens shorts 1 bibshort!!!!

Yeah, that's exactly what I noticed when I went checking at Performancebikes.com.

Well, I don't just go to Santa Clara shops, haha. I usually go to Performance in Campbell or Supergo in Mountain View. Anyway, even most sites don't have them.

I like mine. But my friend gave 'em to me (his sponsor sent him size XS) and I don't think you can buy these exact ones. They're Squadra team division. Best chamois ever, and like Kirke says, they don't dig at the navel.

I wouldn't be surprised if I find that majority of female racers wear those. Most recreational female cyclists not using them are afraid of "too late". After some experiment, I figured out how to squat or sit and do business without taking jersey off. Guys sometimes have to do it sitting or squatting also, you know.

Descente makes a bib for women. We carried them last year, but they were not very popular. But it's hilarious talking to MEN about bibs...half of these so called "Serious riders" have never heard of bibs...so I pull out a half dozen photos of racers with their jerseys open and you can see the bibs and they look at you like this is some satanic plot...I have not worn shorts in over 20 years...you could not GIVE me a pair of bike shorts...
