Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Also, google JTEK Shiftmate. It works.

Yeah it does... I know someone running campy ergo with ultegra components on their tandem. Apparently it works like a charm.

You can also probably change the freehub to campy and then use a campy cassette with the rest of your campy groupset.

There is a cassette that will fit Shimano freehub body and it has the correct cog spacing for campy. I can't remember who makes it right now, at work. Will look tonight for you.

You can get them here in Australia, so they must be sold in the USA?

American Classic make a Shimano-splined-Campy-Spaced cassette. I have one and it works perfectly.

All of these options will work.

Conversion cassettes such as American Classic or Wheels Manufacturing - approx $85 and up. Changing the hubshell and any related parts - better than $60 depending on the hub. JTEK shiftmate - $35.

As an FYI - Rolf Prima, who advertises the "easy conversion" of their hubshells, quoted $175 for the parts on my Vigors. It may be easy in terms of labor but certainly not in parts. Naturally, I'm considering other options.

The campy cassette you have absolutely will not fit on your shimano freehub wheel. Where did you buy the wheelset? Are they returnable?

Couldn't you sell the wheels and buy a new set? or even try to return them for exchange?

Got to know what wheel you have to know if the freehub can be replaced. You will no doubt have to buy the freehub from the mfg of the hub.

Some wheelsets can handle both Shimano and campy cassettes. Maybe check that first (I'm sure you probably have). The Shimano cassette being a little bit narrower than the Campy uses a thin, little washer to take up the extra space on the inside.

This is news to me as Campy and Shimano use different spline patterns on their cassettes and thus, different hubshells. Please explain.

I'm under the impression that my Brontrager Racelites can be converted between Shimano and Campagnolo. I've only used a Shimano Ultegra 10 cassette on the wheel (and have tried on an IRD 10 Shimano cassette) so I can't say for sure that you can simply put a Campy cassette on or if you have to change the hubshell. But this hub is different than I've seen before, and without this thin washer taking up the space (actually it just keeps the cassette from moving the last couple of mm on to the splines), the cassette is too loose to use. When I first put the IRD cassette on it this happened, then I realized that little washer needs to be in there, and those last ~ 2mm are about the extra width of a campy cassette.

Take a look at: https://www.bontrager.com/Road/Wheelw...heels/5863.php

Maybe someone who knows more about the mechanics of this can offer an opinion.

You would need to change the freehub body to put a Campagnolo splined cassette on your wheel. It CAN be done but you would need to change that part...and also redish the wheel I believe...though maybe that is why the spacers are now needed with some cassettes?

Bonty's, for the most part, won't need to be redished. But you do have to change the hubshell and it's likely the axel as well. As I stated before, while this can easily be done - many wheel manufacturers claim it as a feature - it isn't necessarily cheap. It really depends on the specific hub.

For anyone thinking about switching the freewheel hubs, I would be wary. I just did that with my new Easton Ascents/shimano freewheel. I contacted Easton and they said "No Problem" just buy the Campy freewheel hub and voilla(sp?) instant campy. Now I am having major problems, I wish I could get more specific but I am trying to figure out whats going wrong. Let's just say there is chain rub on the spokes, frame, custom spacers and it my new campy group just doesn't feel right....as of now I am thinking of getting a new set of either mavic or campy wheels already built with the campy hub and putting back the shimano hub on my eastons and use those for another bike I have(I got a really good deal on them so I want to keep them). At any rate I should know better...whenever you hear those words"No Problem" run, run away.......if anyone is interested I will post when and if I get my problem fixed and how

^^^ sounds like your wheel needs to be re-dished.

thanks rad, good call, that is probably what is causing the problems and it fits in that the original ascents before easton took over could not be fit with a campy freewheel because of dish problems..only a 8-9 speed with conversion cassttes from wheels manufacturing...the problem was supposed to be fixed with easton redesigning the wheels

I in general found little replacment for wheels built around campy cassettes. I tried a wheels Mfg cassette once....it's sitting in my junk box right now...spokes on my wheels were too thick, and kept the cassette from spinning like it should.

AIf you want cheap to hold you over, Ritchey Aero Comp...Nashbar might have a few campy ones left...but it was around $220 for the whole wheelset, and they seem pretty solid. The freehub does look very different from the freehub body in my campy scirocco wheelset, but I did find they worked just the same. Someday I'll take the time to figure out why they are different.

Hi, i probably should have said which wheels i have, i have the xero xr-1. I don't if the hub can just be swapped out on this model or not, mabe i should call the manufactorer. The reason why i dont return them is because i bought them off ebay, and i thought i was gonna go with shimano stuff but i went with campy and foregot about the wheelset i had

Can you elaborate? I have a powertap pro and I need to either buy the campagnolo conversion hub from powertap for $100 or get the american classic.

Only thing is, I noticed on AC's website that the conversion cassettes aren't compatible with any powertap wheels. Thanks for any help on this.
