Budget bike build to use for races
I am in the process of ordering parts for my new bike. This bike will be used primarily for racing since I don't want to continue to use my IF.
Here is the basic bike build. What ya think? Suggestions welcomed.
Frame: CSK Dedacciai 7003 Carbon (Aluminum w/ carbon stays)
Shifters: Campy Centaur Grey
F. Derailleur: Campy Centaur Grey
R. Derailleur: Campy Centaur Grey
Cassette: Campy Veloce 12-25 (also have a Chorus 12-25)
Chain: KMC 10 speed (campy)
Crankset: FSA Gossamer MegaEXO 172.5 (39x53)
Brakes: Campy Centaur Grey
Seatpost: FSA SL-220
Saddle: Fizik Gobi
Front Wheel: Am Classic hub, DTSwiss RR1.1 rim
Rear Wheel: Am Classic hub, DTSwiss RR1.1 rim
Rear Wheel2: PowerTap SL hub, Mavic Open Pro rim
Anyone have experience with the Gossamer MegaEXO crankset?

Looks pretty good. Another thought for a crank would be the Ritchey WCS road crank. I know they are on sale at Nashbar for less than $100 but you will still need an Octalink BB which you may or may not think is a sin to mix in with the Campy components.

I would really prefer to have an integrated crankset / bottom bracket. I'm tired of having to mess with bottom brackets every few months.

I decided to go with an FSA Carbon Pro Team Issue 39/53 crankset. I have had quite a bit of luck with all of them that I have owned so figured why change a good thing. Plus I already have a new American Classic ISIS bottom bracket laying around. This crankset will save me close to 200 grams over the Gossmer.
The OCP in me won once again.

What sort of build cost do you think you'll be looking at, if you don't mind me asking?

Why not save a few more bucks and get the Veloce group? Mechanically it's nearly identical to Centaur.
go here
https://probikekit.com/kitbuilder.php...SPEED%20DOUBLE
and you can pick and choose the parts you want, you don't have to buy the whole group.

I appreciate the link. I will be getting most of the components from QBP though. Centaur really isn't that much more than Veloce. For the small price difference I just can't justify not getting the Centaur.

i think you should race your other bike, it's a f@$%*&^ bike race not a demolition derby. if your bike's too good to race it's too good for you period. i'm tired of people who seem to think they need a cheap bike to race because they're afraid to hurt their 'good' bike.

The main reason I went with the FSA over the campy crankset is the weight. I just can't get away from the fact that I am a weight weenie. That and the fact that I have owned (or currently own) five or six FSA cranksets and I have never had a problem with any of them. It also helps out that I already have a bottom bracket laying around that I can use on the new bike.

I have made a little change with the build. I believe I am going to be going with a Blue RC5-AL frame instead. For the price it looks like it is a tough frame to beat. I have seen a couple of them at the races plus there is a really nice one on here as well. Everyone I have talked to with them seem to be very happy with the way they perform.

I think that for a race-only bike, I'd go with lighter or more aero wheels. sure the DT swiss rims are strong, but since you're not really doing huge miles on them, you could go for some carbon or something a tad less durable.
