magura phaon

After a nice high speed crash that also claimed my helmet and half the skin down my right side, my magura phaon fork started making a rattling sound. Upon disassembly, a small round bolt fell out of the left leg (the one with the "flight control" travel adjustment dial). The rattling has stopped, but the travel adjustment doesn't work anymore. Where does the little bolt go? I couldn't see an obvious fixing, but I didn't completely disassemble the fork for fear of wrecking it.

I should add that other than the lack of travel adjustment the fork is fine

your best bet for a real solution is to either take it to a shop that services these forks, or if you have the skills (it sounds like you do), call up magura yourself and ask them for assistance in the form of A) a spare parts kit for that fork, B) a technical manual for servicing the fork, with a schematic.

i've never worked on a magura fork before, but i'm guessing it's a lot like most other forks on the inside. spring side, damper side, and then whatever twiddly bits the company has come up with that's different and/or better than everyone else's. that bolt is part of those twiddly bits. without seeing the rest of the inside of the fork, it's hard to say where it belongs.

Yeah, I was afraid it won't be a quick easy one. The manual doesn't really help, only identifying the large components. I don't want to send the fork off for repair as I'm down to one bike for the time being, and I can't stand not riding for more than a couple of days. Looks like I'll have to get in touch with magura and work my slightly haphazard repair skills on the thing. Or buy a spangly new fox talas.
