Hi All,
I would love to be able to map some of my routes and get the elevation gains.....
I'm assuming a web site of some sort, pay or free ?

Thanks for the link. I tiried toporoute.com but it was much more finicky. Just to give you a comparison, I mapped a 50 mile out and back on Skyline Drive, starting at the entrance to Shannendoah National Park. I am also posting the actual elevation profile from My Polar 725i HRM, which records ascent as well. T
They are both pretty dead on. Routeslip gives a total ascent of 6202 and my HRM gives me a total ascent of 6040. Not sure which one is more accurate but I will say the barometric pressure that day was normal and the HRM was giving me the same readings as the posted elevations I was reading on the signs alongthe way. They are close enough to each other for my liking...200 ft. variance not a big deal to me. The big gap in the middle of my hrm profile was obviously where I hung out and ate some lunch.

Oh, and notice in the satellite image the view of the Shannendoah River...here it is towards the end of the ride...just for a little eye candy...

Looks like their only as accurate as google maps was in your city. For instance, look at this, it's a 400meter (quarter mile?) length hill that has a steady 10% grade for the entire thing.

Not exactly as smooth as real life.

I have tried to use routeslip and no matter how many times I click on "create route" I always get taken to the tour and cannot get a map up to try the program out.
Any one else see this??

Well, turns out it won't work with Safari but will under Firefox.
I don't think the data is even close to being reliable however. It is telling me that in my 90 minutes ride this morning I climbed a total of 13,238 metres. For those of you who may not be metric literate, that is just over 43,000 feet!
It is also calculating distance at just less than half of what my cateye computer says.
I think it needs work.
