Northeast Centuries 2007- Updated 3/1
A couple of friends and I were chatting and wanted a "complete" list of centuries in the area.
I told one I would post here and ask the helpful folks on BF to help complete. I did not include rides for which there is no date set. If you have a sentence or two about the ride, that would help.
January
February
March
April
4/28 PSP Metric Century, Hershey, PA (It's a metric century, but is a really nice early season supported ride. Plus, the routes are divided into two separate loops; turning the ride into a full century would be easy to do. Registration is available online via Active.com, or mail-in from the downloadable registration form on the website.) Let Beth know if you are going. (below)
May
5/6 Five Boro Bike Tour (honorary mention 'cause it is huge)
5/12 Quad County Metric. From scenic Green Lane Park, Green Lane, PA, ride 21, 31, 45, 53, 68, or 76 miles at your own pace on low-traffic back roads. The 21-mile route avoids the longest climb and is suitable for casual riders. (Post #19 for details)
5/20* 5BBC Montauk Century (flat and very well supported, fun ride.)
5/20 Bloomin' Metric, up to 100k; East Norwalk Ct. Beeyutiful ride. Wish it didn't conflict with Montauk for the second consecutive year. https://www.soundcyclists.com/Bloomin.htm
June
6/2 "Get Ready Metric", (2) 50km loops from Fort Mott (Pennsville/Salem City) NJ $19
6/20 Hat City Cyclists Century, Bethel, Ct. https://www.hatcitycyclists.org/cycle...efest2006.html
July
7/14 Prouty The century goes over some great miles with goods hills in NH with great views of the White Mountains, and along the CT River on the VT side.
7/21&22 27th Annual International Century Weekend Granite State Wheelmen from Lancaster NH to Canada. https://www.granitestatewheelmen.org/...ury-review.htm
7/29 Harlem Valley Rail Ride -- Millerton NY, https://www.bikenewyork.org/HVRR.htm
August
8/11 "Bridgeton Zoo Ride", (2) 50 and (1) 25 mile loops, from Schalic High School, Centerton, NJ. $19 day of
8/12 Mon Valley Century Elizabeth, PA which is about 18 miles from Pittsburgh.
8/19 Massapequa Park Bike Club Tour of the Hamptons
8/25 Shore Fire Century -- Middletown DE https://ohbike.org/events/index.htm
8/26 North Fork Century (North Fork of Eastern Long Island, flat and scenic)
8/26 Lake Nockamixon Century. From Warrington, PA, ride 25, 50, 75, or 100 miles on rolling terrain with a few hills. (Post #19 for detail)
September
9/8Civil War Century -- Thurmont MD to Gettysburg PA https://www.baltobikeclub.org/index.pl/bbc_events
9/9 Transportation Alternatives' NYC Century (the only 100% urban Century -- a lot of stop and go makes this a harder ride than the flat terrain would suggest. A real good time.)
9/9 Southern Maryland Fall Century -- Indian Head MD https://ohbike.org/events/index.htm
9/14&15 Highlander Cycletour (FIngerlake Region of NY) 5 ride options, 30-100 miles, https://www.highlandercycletour.com/

5BBC's Montauk Century is a go. It's the knockoff "Montauk Ride" or whatever that is TBD.

Pumpkin Patch Pedal in early October in central Jersey. It's put together by SIBA. Here's a link to last year's ride.
In mid-September is the Golden Apple ride in Westchester County, NY.
The PPP is flatter and easier; the Golden Apple more difficult.

It's a metric century, but is a really nice early season supported ride. Plus, the routes are divided into two separate loops; turning the ride into a full century would be easy to do. Registration is available online via Active.com, or mail-in from the downloadable registration form on the website. I'm covering the registrations for the bike club, and will definitely be there for the ride - anyone coming, please let me know!

I doubt I'll be in shape for it this Aug. That may be my training goal for '08.
(It is hard to train for serious hills in NYC.)

The first checkpoint for the course was supposed to close 3.5 hours after ride start. We got there half an hour past closing and were surprised to see that it was still open. The staff mentioned that during the closing time, less than half of the riders had arrived because we were all just scattered around the forest.
all that said, even with the DNF, it was a ton of fun and an utterly gorgeous ride.

river road is great and offers some good climbing. it's right off the GW bridge on the new jersey side. i think there are 7 main hills along the stretch, ending with a mile long climb to the police station. the serious guys will do hill repeats out there, but a simple out and back ride is fairly challenging.

Suburban Cyclists Unlimited (www.suburbancyclists.org) offers two of the best run rides around the Mid-Atlantic region.
(1) May 12, 2007, Quad County Metric. From scenic Green Lane Park, Green Lane, PA, ride 21, 31, 45, 53, 68, or 76 miles at your own pace on low-traffic back roads. The 21-mile route avoids the longest climb and is suitable for casual riders. The longer routes are on rolling to hilly terrain. The 53- and 76-mile routes include the 8-mile "Intensive Climbing Unit" extra- hilly segment with 1,200 ft additional climbing. A flat 10-mile ride on the unpaved Perkiomen Trail is also available.
(2) August 27, 2007, Lake Nockamixon Century. From Warrington, PA, ride 25, 50, 75, or 100 miles on rolling terrain with a few hills. A hilly 107-mile Intensive Climbing Unit century route is also being offered. All riders will visit picturesque Lake Galena in Peace Valley Park. 50-to-100-mile riders will also visit our well-stocked rest stop at scenic Lake Nockamixon.
And don't forget the classic Central Bucks Bike Club's Covered Bridges Ride, in mid-October. Enjoy the beautiful foliage of Central and Upper Bucks County, PA, and travel through up to six historic covered bridges. Don't let the ~2,800 riders worry you: with five routes (63, 50, 33, 30 and 20 miles), the roads aren't crowded. (https://www.cbbikeclub.org/?body=cove...6c7802c1236f0c)
Incidentally, one of the most comprehensive and up-to-date lists of events is maintained by the SCU webmaster, so you might want to check there occasionally.

Cyclists don't pay for the bridge do they?
ps, I should have said thanks... It is about 14 miles each way if I don't add anything on like the hills. (Most days I ride Riverside Dv instead of the Greenway north of 79th. More hills.) But this time of year, I get on the bikepath on the way home as soon as possible. It is dark out there at 7pm.

River Road is a suck-ass heavily trafficked road that goes from Hoboken to the start of the Henry Hudson Drive.
The MS Century goes up the Henry Hudson; there's 6000 ft of elevation on that ride... that is, if you believe Delorme Topo.

Check out https://www.nybc.net for a list of NE centuries. I don't think they've updated yet for 2007, but it's a comprehensive list.
