Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rad's Latest Project - Photos Up

***NOTE***

This first post has been edited to put all pertinent photos and story in one place.

--------------------

3 years ago, I got a hair up me butt and tore apart a perfectly good Lemond Maillot Jaune road bike and built it into a frankenbike commuter of sorts. I rode it for over a year and it quickly became one of my favorite bikes of all time. But there were 2 issues I had with it. First, the frame was too small and second, I had pieced it together with stuff I just had laying around. And while it worked, it was pretty much a mish mash.

I eventually gave away the MJ, vowing to someday do a similar style build from scratch. A year ago, I started acquiring the pieces and 3 months ago, I actually finished it. I haven't ridden it much due to personal reasons but I did want to share with the forum what it looked like.

First, the inspiration:

and, the result:

I want to thank the following forum members for contributing to this project....

Roadfix - for his amazing work cutting on the Brooks saddle - thank you George!

Dtrain - for donating the brand new Mavic Open Pro rims - thank you!

ViperZ - for donating the gorgeous Chorus seatpost - again, gracias my friend.

I also want to thank Todd McClelland for his fantastic photography skills and Kim Seidel for helping out on this and so many other things.

You guys are the best.

It's not a fixie nor a single speed...

More photos in the morning.

OH... Good Heavens!!!

I'm guessing you did another single DT shifter project. Probably a steel 9 speeder?

Reminiscent of your old MJ commuter?

Am I close?

(nice Miche crank, btw)

You're cruel, plus (technically speaking) it's already morning.

Let me guess -- you're going to let us know at 11:59am !!??

Yes. But it's a frame I built before and rode for about a month before setting it aside for this project.

Hah, I think I know what frame of yours it is, but I'll keep my cakehole shut. Looking forward to the complete unveiling later today.

George rocks, but he now goes by "Roadfix" (or something like that). Let's get with it Mr. Mod.

Judging from your first pic I'd say you've taken up crank. Don't you know that stuff will kill you man?
