She's almost perfect. Time to show it off

Beyond buying a fancier domestic lugged frame (which I'll never be able to afford), I don't think I need to make another upgrade to my commuter, it's finally perfect. I just gave her a bath so I grabbed some snapshots. The only change I'd make is some 170mm cranks, but the 175s are fine and I don't do any high cadence riding on this baby anyhow. The most recent upgrades are the front hub and light system, and the tubus logo rack. Both were absurdly expensive, but worth every penny. This bike started as a stock Cross Check Complete two years ago.

Upgrades:
48mm Nitto Noodle bars
Cane Creek Gummy levers, Nashbar Cross levers
Nashbar short stem
Lumotec IQ Fly Senso Plus with B&M tail w standlight
Peter White front wheel w Nexus generator hub (disc compatible for future)
Woody's Fenders
Schwalbe Marathon Supremes 700x40c (rear tire has a Mr Tuffy for insurance due to Nexus hub)
Brooks Champion Flier Special Edition
Tubus Logo Rack
Hebie Chainglider
Nexus 8 Premium hub Rear Wheel from Continental Cyclery
Velo Orange Leather bar tape over Fitzik gel pads
Acorn Small Saddle Bag (old style)
Velo Orange Bell
Boulevard Smokestack Cork bar end plug

They were very affordable. $120 Fast turnaround too. https://www.woodysfenders.com

I highly recommend the guy. He made these custom for me because the first set were a bit too narrow, and even paid freight on the second pair. He can custom make anything. Those are 2-1/4" wide. You need slightly wider fenders when going wood because they aren't curved around the tire.

I just looked at his site and saw something I must have. He's making chainguards now

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Surly, Contenintal Cyclery, Bicycle Xchange Shop, Peter White, and the Woody's fenders guy did all the work. I just had to cough up about a months post-tax salary. It's worth more than my POS car now!

I have those same brakes on my LHT and they are great. The best cantis I've ever owned, and not expensive.

That's a beautiful bike. If you don't mind, post a review in a few weeks of how that Nexus 8 treats you. I'm planning on making the switch on my LHT, with much the same setup as you, and would love to hear your thoughts.

Bike isn't new, it has evolved. It has just finally reached the point where I don't really have a wish list for it any more, it has everything I need and is perfect for my needs. It's beautiful and functional. Nexus 8 has been on there for almost a year. Honestly, I wouldn't buy a nexus-8 again if I had the choice. The best part is the ability to use the chainglider and shifting while stopped. The bad part is how difficult it is to do a flat repair due to the awkward cable attachment and the inability to shift while pedaling hard. If I did it again I would have found a different chain guard and kept the rear derailleur. Giving up the front derailleur for the chainguard is a no-brainer. A chainguard is a necessary accessory in my opinion. I spent over $500 to buy the wheel, cogs, chainglider, and shifter. If I did it again I would have gone single in the front, probably bought a different cassette to give me a wider gear range, and bought a chainguard that would work with a rear derailleur.

The new items this week completing the bike are the lighting system and the rack. I have used many other lighting systems and one other rack. The Tubus logo rack and the hub-driven Lumotec IQ Fly senso plus are awesome.

Luckily I am able to keep it parked inside at work in our warehouse, so I do ride it to work. I worry a bit when I go out drinking downtown adn leave it parked, but I love riding it so much I'm not going to ride one of my lesser bikes. I bought it to ride it.

Jeff,
THat bike is very good looking. It is good to see some Marathons Supremes in the wild
Do those fenders hold up on your dailycommute? As pretty as they are, I wonder whether they hold up in rain/snow?
What is the kickstand you've got? I am looking for a double kick stand on my own LHT
