Cheap road cranks with SS rings installed? Nothing special - nothing at all. Also, nothing particularly wrong with them, either.

they'll break in half within a month; spend at least $150 or this will happen.

i think those are the same as the iro cranks...which i have. i've been riding them for almost a year and they're fine. the only thing i don't like is that the chainring sits on the inside of the spider. but mechanically they've held up fine and i haven't had any problems with them at all. and they give a 42mm chainline.

I decided to bump this older thread rather than starting a new one. I did a search on google for a track crankset that accepts a 110mm bottom bracket. I currently have an IRO 110mm bottom bracket used with the IRO track crankset, but I was looking for alternatives because I want a black one. I have found (https://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...s.php?id=16823) that the Pake crankset accepts either a 107mm bb or a 110mm bb - and this confuses me.....how can either work to create a desirable/straight chainline?

great crankset for the money. i rode a set for almost 2 years no problems. my girl also has them on her s/s. they certainly will NOT break in half during the 1st month (unless you are throwing yourself off buildings). I will put my old set on my next guest bike.

Thank you for speaking up for the quality of the crankset, however, you did not address whether it accepts the 110mm or 107mm bottom bracket, as the link I provided says either can be used.

you put the chainring on the inside or outide of crank arm to make each size fit

Yeah I think Patricky is right. Get the 107 so you can put it on the outside. Looks better, IMO

I've had a pake crankset for maybe 5 months now, put them through their paces riding hard and they've been holding up great so far.

Bikes: enough bikes to qualify for Hoarders......

They are strong enough to handle my 200 lbs standing to pull hills, perfectly fine. They are made in the same tooling as an old Sugino BMX crank set from what I have been told. Or you could buy some 200 dollar cranks that do exactly the same thing the same way...

The Pake crankset isn't bad for what it is, and the price. Comes in choice of 165 or 170mm arms, choice of 1/8" or 3/32" teeth, and a few chainring sizes. 110bcd means you can run any bmx chainring too. I've been riding/skidding mine for a couple months now, no issues.

wow when i first researched this crank, there was like mostly bad things about it so i let it float away from my mind, but now this thread, i might just go get myself one of these, they look pretty nice

Although, is it recommended to get the silver one not the black because i have heard the black paint comes off real easy

I don't think matt w was quite serious. I hope. They're as rigid and durable as any two pieces of the same forged aluminum alloy. That is, just as rigid and durable as that overpriced Sugino 75. Ask Sugino if you don't believe me.

I think this was a joke.

And I'm assuming the black is anodized, not panted as suggested in an earlier post?

I'm riding on pake cranks and they seem fine after a couple months, I've never ridden suginos so I don't know how to compare. as far as the BB, I'm running a 107 and have to mount the chainring on the inside of the spider for a decent chainline. I think you could run a 104 or 105 and mount the chainring on the outside because I still have plenty of room for a shorter bb.
