Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Beer.

Since I'm sitting around, getting loaded, I figured this would be a good thread to start up for all you beer lovers out there.

What beer do you drink during the off-season and during the season? Do you drink a lot more during the off-season? Do you drink light beers, or do you man up and drink the legit ****?

Me, I ride to the bar and drunkenly sprint home on my fixed (I know, I know, you can get a DUI on a bike. I live about 3 blocks away from my favorite bar), which is tough as hell. I'm already at a higher elevation, riding hard after getting tanked feels like I'm trying to fight a black bear dragon man on top of Mount Everest. Even still, I drink way less during the summer than I do during the winter, mainly I just don't have the time.

So what say you?

Mostly stouts...Guinness, Murphys, Beamish....some ales like Smithwicks, Boddingtons, but lately Ive been on a Yuengling Lager kick. I like to have a few the night before a 'rest day'.

mmmmmmmm. beer.

My favorite summer, post-ride libation is Reissdorf Kolsch. Three or four of those along with a Reuben is my favorite recovery meal.

During the winter, I drink heavier beers, and usually not as part of any recovery strategy. Tonight I'm enjoying a Lagunitas New Dogtown Pale Ale, though I think their IPA is a better beer.

salut!

Beer??? Where's the beer??? Mmmmmm I drink the cheap crap, 'coz I cant afford the good German stuff, (St. Pauli Girl is my fav.) and going to a bar is WAY too expensive. Budweiser Select, and to quote the immortal George Thoroughgood, "I Drink Alone".

Hoegaarden or Duvel. Any kind of Beglium ale will do though. Those just happen to be my two favorites. And Duvel running in at 8.5%, it'll get you hammered pretty quick.

I've got so much good microbrew to choose from here in downtown Denver, that I can't do it justice with a list.

Last night we hit the tap room at the Great Divide Brewery and then had some great Mountain Sun brews at the Vine Street Pub.

I tend to like the wood cask conditioned IPAs. The best beer needs to be pumped out of a keg by hand. The bar tenders hate when I order growlers of cask conditioned to go though. That is a lot of pumping.

true dat. but, i've had some of the best conversations over a pint at the bar, and i've picked up weird tidbits of information from people i would never have drinking in my living room. it that respect, it's worth the price... once in a while.

OK, I see you're in NY too. If we're only going to drink a pint, I'll converse with you. Only if you buy the first round though lol.

When's the off-season?? You mean there's an off-season?? I did my first club ride the first week in January when it was 15 degrees out lol. Ya' bunch of lightweights! (I'm still over 300 lbs., and a real polar bear so I can justify that comment).

But why would you want to ruin two perfectly tasty beers? These two beers are quite perfect by themselves.

True true... i try to ride a bit in the winter, but even reading some of the posts people make about riding in the cold makes me shutter. I don't know why, I have no problem snowboarding all day. Probably cos I don't have the right outerwear for winter riding. Next year maybe.

BTW, I've heard that Guiness is only about 120 calories...
