I've not been a forum member for very long, and when I first joined, I hung out at Road Cycling. Good group of people over there, but when I discovered this little slice of heaven... WOW!

Man, I'm now motivated to build up bikes I'd NEVER have considered before!
My wife is going to hate me....

It is a slippery slope... a very slippery slope. ;-)

I agree!
I started off in the singlespeed/fixed forum trying to gather any information possible when I was building my fixed gear, but then I stumbled into the C&V hoping to get some information on my Nishiki.
Been hooked ever since. Highly informative, good people, and beautiful bikes.

What's really great about this place is that it's very civil. Regulars are ready and anxious to help, not drop bombs. There's very little attitude here.

Yeah, very little "attitude" here.
I've always been a road race bike kind of guy. Now I want to build me a townie, a rat rod, etc.!

C&V is the only forum I ever check with a rare jaunt over to fixed/SS. But that's cause I know these dudes here and the only bikes I care about are 15years and over, the passion was born here.

Yes, I agree this is a lil slice of heaven. The help that I've received from this forum has been great.

The new stuff becomes dated pretty quickly but classic is classic forever.

Ain't that the truth. I started with my Bianchi and a cheap 16 yo mountain bike last August and within two months of getting involved with the C&V group here (the only one I check besides the PNW) I ended up with 2 Gitane's, 2 Peugeot's, 1 Raleigh, 2 Trek (1 road/1 mtb). All but one of these is an early 80's machine (the other being a '68 - I think).
And, my wife doesn't get it. But, as with most things I do, that's a normal reaction.

As I've said many time, this is best place on teh internetz.
In all seriousness, I doubt I would have learned as much about bikes had I even spent my time in the road forum. I find it amazing that there are people over there who think Brooks saddles were never raced
. I bet most of them over there would be apalled/astounded/terribly confused if they were to ever encounter cottered cranks. It's crazy. But, you come over here and it's a regular thing. We're cool with just about everything. Sure, there are heated arguments, but they rarely ever degrade into name calling or insults. I guess cause we're all mature (young to old) while the roadie forums tend to be full of overconfident jerks.
The only other two forums here I think are close to as civil are the Recumbent forums and the Touring forums. Bent' riders are laid back (pun intended) because they're different. The tourers are laid back cause they too are different. And the same goes for us.
I'll say it as many times as necessary.
You guys are great. I'd consider so many of you good friends if I knew you all in person. Though, if need be I may still go out of my way to help some of you.

6 bikes? That's about a third of my collection. But if Ms. Blue Order thinks it's 6 bikes, why argue?

Hi Ned, thanks for sharing.
So i can stop being ashamed that my only classic and vintage bike is a 78' Peugeot UO8?
Yep... still my favorite forum on Bikeforums. I like the fact that it is more or less a, let's see what you got attitude in this forum. In other words, very few people in this forum will ever tell you that your bike is junk, or not worthy,or doesn't deserve to be restored. Many different types of bikes are welcome in this forum, or so it seems, and I like that attitude myself
