We're getting way off topic here but I'm often amazed at the number of people who think that just because they buy a headset, fork, cranks/BB, etc from my shop that they shouldn't be charged for labor when installing said component. We even had one dude recently trying to haggle with me over the cost of wheel build labor and actually got pissed when I told him it would take a few days. It blows my mind.

My shop has a very fair labor rate of $60/hour (literally $1 per minute spent working on your bike) and will never overcharge. If someone is complaining about having to pay for labor, I have no problem telling them to use our phone and call around to other shops to see who will be willing to do it for free. There have even been a few instances where I've made the call myself saying "Hey, this is Scrod from Retrogression. I've got a customer here who is looking to have a _______ installed and not pay for it. Is that something you can do ASAP?"

On the other side of the coin, we had a dude come in today who was missing a chainring bolt. I dug around in my spare parts drawer and handed him one. When he asked how much he owed me, I said not to worry about it. He left and came back 10 minutes later with a 12 pack of beer. That's the way to do it, folks.

That is awesome...if I owned the shop where I work I would totally do that. I would probably get fired for jackassery like that where I currently am under employ! Though I fully approve!

Bringing it back home: Square taper, square taper, square taper! If it was good enough for Fausto Coppi, Eddy Merckx, Henri Desgrange...it is damn fine for me!

Let me guess, these same customers buy all their tools at Harbor Freight.

I don't think Eddy rides a square taper anymore.

I've used both w/o any problems, however, Scrod says he's had problems with some Protypes being inconsistent with spindle length, so he now only sells Tange Seiki.

Another BB that works well with the 75s is the Miche sealed unit. I've been using them on my good fix (road only) fix gear the past 5 years with I think one re-build or replacement. 13,000 miles, its seen its fair share of wet Oregon winters. Not as durable as a Shimano but it is the proper ISO taper which the Shimanos aren't.
