Looking to get some nice, light pedals with good straps for long rides. Curious to see what people are using.

I've used just about everything and keep going back to MKS GR-10.

GR-9's have always been good for me.

What straps/ toeclips do you use Scrod? Has anyone used these Power Grips? I'm intrigued. Supposed to be best of both worlds between clip-less and platform/toe cage systems. https://www.rei.com/product/609173/po...grips-original

Never ridden them, but Power Grips always seemed weird to me because they go diagonally over the pedal.

White Industries pedals are awesome.

I liked my urban platforms. I ended up swapping over to clipless pedals, though.

Real men use the GR-10 pedals.

I used them for awhile on a fixed gear mountain bike...

Liked them - worked fine, were easy to get in and out. Can't offer any long-term info though, sold the bike with them on only a couple months after they were installed...but they were holding up well for as long as I had them.

The diagonal entry makes for kind of a lock when you turn your foot straight forward - was pretty effective...

And what toe cages and straps go best with GR-10s? Also, whats the main difference between the GR-10 and GR-9s besides size? I don't have especially big or wide feet , Im a size 10, you think I'd like the 9's ok?

I'm a size 9 shoe and the GR10 fits perfectly. Using All-City plastic double cages with Exustar laminated straps. For a little more $ the A-C Crayton cages look really nice.

Shimano 600 semi-platforms with steel washers bolted to a longer front toeclip bolt and a 1/2 x 1/8 steel bar tab bolted to the quill. Not light at all. Very easy fix gear pick up. And with slotted cleats like your ancestors rides very secure and efficient. (I took a pair of these off my good fix gear and put them on my best geared bike yesterday so I could use my best shoes. Took a while to remember "oh yeah, I don't have clipless" at stops, but what a ride!

That set-up has now done Cycle Oregon three times on the fix gear and on several different bikes >40,000 miles.

I hope some manufacturer starts making those pedals again. They were/are some of the better pedals ever made.

But ... 1) if you ride fixed and pull up hard on the straps, you will loosen all the pressfits. I have a box of loose pedals. And 2) the left dustcap will unscrew and disappear if you touch that pedal on a corner. (Half those dead pedals don't have dustcaps.)

Hasn't been a problem here.

Those pedals also have cleat tabs which will get annoying/uncomfortable VERY fast with regular shoes. The OP didn't say anything about getting special shoes and cleats. You may use old style shoe/cleats but no one else here does. Might as well post some spd pedals.

Just don't get MKS Sylvan Track pedals. I made that mistake about a year ago...learned to live with it, but only on my relatively short commute. Anything longer than 10 miles makes my feet incredibly sore.

I've been looking into Hold Fast straps and was wondering if these are compatable with either the GR-10 or the Urban platform pedals by MKS? Thanks if anyone knows. .

Just by eyeballing the pictures of those straps and my experiencing threading leather straps through the Urban Platforms, I'd say they wouldn't fit in the factory sized strap slot without trying to trim it down or forcing all the fabric through. Those slots are small, I had to pull the straps through with pliers.

Are you talking about the tabs on the triangular plate that anchors the toeclips? I forgot about those. I either grind off the tabs or replace them with the tab-less 105 triangles.

I've been riding MKS Sylvan Touring pedals for nearly a decade (on my second pair) with clips and double straps. My feet never hurt. Great pedal IMO.

The Tour and Track pedals are different. The Track pedals are basically a replica that have slots for old school cycling cleats. When using them with normal sneakers, they're not great.

Basically the same problem that hairnet described above with the Lyotards.
